I checked with the Bhattar Swami who had the privilege to be the one of the Mirasudar of the Hereditary Archaka (which was abolished by the Andhra Government) and another Kainkaryabhara who is currently working in the TT Devasthanam in Thirumala and adiyen would like clarify the following:1. Thiruvenkadamudaiyan is purely a Salagrama Thirumeni. It is not made up of any stones available in the Thirumala hills. Also, since there is no electric light used inside the Sanctum Sanctorum, the place is always warm due to the fact that it has been constantly lit with Ghee and Cotton thread. 2. During the Kshetra Balaka Uthsavam Archakas do preethis (or offerings) to Ksehtra Balakas the protectors of the place. Kshetra Balakas are like policemen and they are offered poojas with respect. Thiruvenkadamudaiyan never wears anything other than Urdhava Pundram. 3. The Sthala Vriksha is not Tamarind Tree as mentioned. It is Shenbaga Vriksha. 4. I don't know in which Tamil Literature Thiruvenkadamudaiyan is called as Verumkai Vedan. But in Silapadhikaram (which is written in the first century AD) the Lord is being described as follows by a pilgrim who happens to meet Kovalan on their way to Madurai: (Madurai Kandam, Chapter 11)"He (the pilgrim) hoped too to go on to Venkata Hills,With swollen waterfalls and towering peaks,At a central zone lit by the Sun and the Moon,And fest his eyes on red-eyed Vishnu standingLike a cloud adorned by lightning and rainbow,Wearing his glittering Kausthuba necklaceAlong with the golden Peetaambara garment,Standing erect while his lotus hands heldHis Powerful disc and the resonant conch. Desikan, published 2007 by Margabandhu Publications) This passage from Silapadhikaram clearly says that the Lord of Seven Hills always wears Conch and Disc. We need to remember that Silappadhikaaram belongs to the Third Sanga Period. Whereas Azhwars lived in the first Sanga period. Therefore even before Ilango Adigal, Azhwars have eloquently mentioned that the presiding deity is none other than Lord Vishnu. Even in the Venkatachala Mahathmyam it has been mentioned that Lord of Seven Hills gave His Conch and Disc to Thondaimaan Chakravarthi. 5. It is true that both in Srirangam and Thirumala the main deity is offered Curd Rice everyday, but it is not offered in the clay pot as mentioned in the article. Only in the month of Dhanur (Margazhi) is the clay pot used to cook food for the Lord of Seven Hills . These days I was told that actually a Gold Vessel is being used to offer the Curd Rice. 6. The Vasthram (Mel Saatru) that is being offered to Lord Srinivasa is not a saree as mentioned in the article. It is rather a long Dhothi and we need to wait for little more than 20 years to offer a new Dhothi to the Lord. I was told that the bookings are made for 2030 and above now. 7. The Bilva leaf is used during the month of Dhanur for Poojas and not every Friday. The reason is, Bilva leaf has been prescribed for MahaLakshmi pooja also. Lord Srinivasa means Goddess Sri is always with the Lord and the Bilva Pooja is for the Goddess MahaLakshmi. 8. It is NOT true that Lord of Seven Hills is being worshiped as Goddess Ambal and Lord Shiva. I just verified this fact with both the kainkaryabharas, who have both been very closely associated with the temple for a long time. It has been also clearly established by great Saints like Azhwars, Andal, and other SriVaishnava and Madhva Vaishnava Acharayas that the presiding Deity in Thirumala is none other than Lord Sriman Narayana. I strongly believe in Hindu unity. But such statements of distorted truth will never result in unity, but rather lead to provocations among different religious groups. While it is alright, out of devotion for the devotee to envisage different forms of their affinity in the Lord, however, it is wrong to provide inaccurate and wrong facts such as that the Lord of Seven Hills is being worshipped with Vibuthi as Lord Shiva, and with Bilva leaves as Goddess Ambal, since this is definitely not the case. 9. It is rather true that during Fridays there are two Satrumarais. This is because only during Fridays the Thirumanjanam (or Abhisheka) is being performed and it is done during the Ijjya Kalam of Thiruvaradhanam. For the Abhigamanam time there is a shorter version of the Satrumarai. But in both Satrumarais only Thenkalai Thaniyans are recited. The unfortunate aspect of this article is that it has several truths and lot of devotion, but has several grossly misrepresented facts, which can mislead several innocent people.
