Namaskaram.Yesterday I attended an upanyasam by Anand Karalapakkam on

Tiruppavai. His talk was so wonderful it left me speechless for a long

time.In fact I have requested him to join us whenever he is free to write

something for Krishna homepages,et al based on his upanyasams.I told him I

will even create a special column just for him.It is indeed adiyen's bhagyam

to have come in association with him.He is certainly an inspiration for all

youngsters.Namo Narayana.

Sri Anand's speech at Sri Sridhar's residence was simply mesmerizing. It was

so simple, so deep, so clear and so well laid out, so nice, so sweet, so

great, but so short ( just 2-1/2 hours). Sri Anand referred to no single

sheet of paper in his entire speech of 2-1/2 hours. He spoke like the clear

stream of waters that flow at Kollidam (Srirangam), neither fast, nor slow.

Just adequate for us, the novices, to immerse oursleves in with

Paramanandham. The way he simply said " the very mere existence of ours is

Emperumaan's upakaaram, and why to talk of the rest? " , brought tears in

listeners' eyes. The way he explained Jivan's eternal relationship as an

attribute to Emperumaan with a simili that the red colour of the apple can

not just exist without the substance, i.e apple, drilled into even adiyEn's

dull head.

 

He mentioned about " kadhir mathiyam pOl mugatthaan " - Sun when He fight with

asurAs like hiraNyan; and Moon when He looks gracefully at Bhagawathas like

Prahaladan). He also explained about the interpretation of this " maargazhi

thingaL " pasuram as referred to AchAryan and the led sishya calling other

sishyas to go to AchAryan. Here, the kadhir refers to the way AchAryan

argues logically quoting all Vedas and saashthras, and wins in a sadhas,

shining like the Sun, victoriously, while when He delivers upanyasam, (as in

the sase of Tele upanyasam), He is like a moon, so coolly and gracefully, so

lucidly and simply narrates the esoteric tatvams in a lofty manner.

 

(What struck me- is this Sri Anand, when he discusses and argues in e-mail

lists, defending Sri Ramanuja Sampardayam, he shines like " KadhiR. That is

what I have always experienced. When I listened to his upanyasam, I

experienced the " mathi " .)

 

He narrated the whole speech with very clear analogies and practical real

life incidents to explain the deepest principles. He mentioned few real life

incidents, and leaves no chance at all to talk the glory of his AchAryA,

whenever there is an opportunity. His AchArya bhakti- His anushatnam (that

we noticed when he requested Bhagawathas to sit down and eat Prasadhams),

his sincererity, is all beyond one's imagination. He has to be seen to be

believed.

 

In spite of all his great speech talking for more than two hours on just the

first pAsuram of Thiruppavai, at the end, he said that he is merely a parrot

re-narrating what Sri Karunakaran swami had taught him. Such a humility and

modesty is what this Bhagawatha possesses. We need to learn a lot from this

lad of 24 years.

 

Merely due to age, (and nothing else), adiyEn is older than Sri Anand.

Hence, I take this opportunity and on everyone's behalf, to wish him all

success in his future endeavours in propagating Sri Ramanuja sampradayam to

youngsters (like Sri Haresh) and oldsters (like me).

 

May Divya Dampathi shower Their blessings to him as They do always.

 

Blessed is the AchAryan with a disciple like you, Anand.
