SRIMAD BHAGAVAD GITA

- translation by Sri.V.N.Gopala Desikan

Chapter IV

slOkA 14

na mAm karmAni limpanti na mE karmaphalE sprhA

iti mAm yo bhijAnAti karmabhir na sa badhyatE

Translation :

karmAni - works

na limpanti - are not connected

mAm - with Me;

mE - in Me

na sprhA - there is no desire

karmaphalE - for the fruits of actions.

yah - He who

abhijAnAti - knows

mAm - Me

iti - in this way;

sa - he

na badhyatE - is not bound

karmabhit - by past karmAs

Works are not connected with Me; in Me there is no

desire for the fruits of actions. He who knows Me

in this way , he is not bound by past karmAs.

Commentary : I am not responsible for the differences in the

creation like dEvAS, men, animals or birds. These differences

are only due to the past karmAs like punya and pApA of the

particular jivAtmA; who takes on the body of the dEvA or man

and so on.

That is why , I am not the maker of these differences

or distinctions. I cannot be accused of partiality or cruelty.

The jivAtmA is endowed with a suitable body , in accordance

with its past karmA. It then enjoys worldly pleasures. For Me,

there is no such desire for fruits.

Whoever knows Me, in truth as above , is freed from

the past karmAs; which hinder him from practising karma yOgA ;

and which give rise to desire for fruits.

adiyEn,

balaji
