SwAmi VedAnta Desika's " NaichyAnusanthAnam "

and " SAtvika AhamkAram "

(as gleaned from his StOtras)

Part 4. SAtvika AhamkAram

============================================================

Dear Bhagavatas

Your kind attention is invited to the Introduction to this Part posted on

21st November 99 to appreciate this posting better and in the proper

perspective.

(Anbil Ramaswamy)

=============================================================

SAtvika AhamkAram: 4.07:

" CONSIDER MY WORK, MY SUBJECT AND MYSELF.

CAN ANYONE DARE SAY THAT THERE IS ANYTHING FALSE? "

=============================================================

iyam avithatha varNa varNeeya svabhAvAth

viditha nigama seemnA vEnkaTEsEna geethA /

bhava maru bhuvi thrishNA lObha paryAkulAnAm

disathu phalam abheeshTam dEhaLeesa sthuthir nah: //

(DEhaLeesa Sthuthi SlOkam 28)

Meaning

" This StOtram has been composed by no less a person than myself,

VVEnkaTEsakavi, by name. I have understood the very limits of the Vedas i.e.

VVEdAntas.

The StOtram is about " SarvEswaran "

How can there be anything false in such a work?

This SarvEswaran will certainly be an oasis for us who languish in the midst

of the desert of " SamsAram " but who still cling on assiduously to the

evanescent but all consuming pleasures of worldly life "

(bhava maru bhuvi thrishNA lObha paryAkulAnAm)

Comment

SwAmi brings three aspects to prove that there can be nothing untrue in this

StOtra:

1. Prabhanda vailakshanyam

2. Vishaya vailakshanyam and

3. Vaktru vailakshanyam.

1. Prabhanda Vailakshanyam:

The specialty of the work.

Not a syllable in the StOtra is tainted by any blemish

(avithatha varNa)

2. Vasthu or Vishaya Vailakshanyam:

The specialty of the subject.

(varNeeya svabhAvAth)

Who is the subject of this StOtra?

It is " SarvEswaran " Himself.

What kind of " SarvEswaran " ?

The one who grew to unimaginably great proportions to measure the three

worlds and who yet shrunk Himself to find a place in the small space in which

the three Mudal AzhwArs took shelter from the rains!

3. Vaktru Vailakshanyam:

The specialty of the author

Who is the author this StOtra?

It is VEnkaTEsakavi, the one who has known the very limits of the Vedas

(vidhitha nigama seema).

This is absolutely true because it is very well known that SwAmi had learned

all one needs to know within 20 years of age.

" VimsatyabdhE visrutha nAnA vidha vidyAh: "

SwAmi uses the words " Na: " meaning " for us " in plural.

The recitation of this Sthuthi will be a real oasis and not a mirage for all

of *us* - including his contemporaries and generations to follow.

What a compassion!

The StOtra begins with a reference to the Lord as one who bestows boons on

His devotees

(PranayiNam vividhAn pumarthAn visrANayan).

The StOtra ends with the sentiment that the very recitation will yield all

one desires

(disathu phalam abheeshTam).

This indeed is like " Bhagavad Geetha "

This is " VEnkaTEsa Geetha "

SwAmi himself uses the words " VEnkaTEsEna GeethA "

=============================================================

To Continue Satvika AhamkAram 4.08:

" LOOK! MY WORK IS EQUAL TO VEDAS! "

=============================================================
