Dear bAgawathAs,

 

thEyAtha vennilAvin puthu uthayam

kAyAtha kannilEyun kAthal gAnam

puthiya Oviyam padaikka perum

putthuyir sEra ponnulagam arangamE

 

meaning:

That full and white moon that has not yet lost any of its phases

is rising in the sky to see Sri Arangan's thiru vizhA. Those eyes

that never winked (nitya suris) are sparkling with love for Sri

Arangan's thiru vizhA kOlam. It all looked as if when one is

creating a great new chitthiram the chitthiram got its life

when it arrived in the golden universe of Srirangam and saw the

thiru vizhA kOlam of Sri Arangan.

 

Sravana or Avani:

Sri jayanthi is celebrated on the rohini nakshatthiram. nam

perumAL comes to sribhandAra mandapam and thirumanchanam is

performed. During this time peria thiru mozhi dealing the child

hood of Sri Krishan are chanted by the Araiyars. The next day,

Sri krishna ursavar is decorated and taken out in procession

from the " kiLi " mandapam around chithrai veedhi. " uri adi " is

celebrated on the banks of thirumanchana kAuveri. Again on their

way back at the south corner of chithrai veethi an " uri " filled

with curd is hung and is broken by a stick by the priest.

 

Pavithra ursavam: The pavithra ursavam commences on the EkAdasi

day of the " vaLar piRai " . The navarathna pithArOhanam or the

stationing of the Lord on a bed of multicolored flowers is done

near the footsteps of yAgasAlai. An elaborate thiru ArAdhana is

done. The maNgala Arthi is done 360 times. Thirumanchanam and

offering of prasAdham is done. The pavithras or cotton threads

tied together in different sizes are kept in pots (earthern) that

are arranged on tops of heaps of paddy. On chanting the vEdha

manthiram they are supposed to have been activated as similar

to prAna prathistA is done and perumAL's own thatthuvam must

have been instilled. Then the longest vanamAla pavithra is taken

out and carried to the garba gruham and adorned to the moolavar.

Ursavar comes back to HIS abode. On dwAdasi after thiru

ArAdhanmam, mangala Artthi is done for 360 times to each one,

is moolavar, namperumAL, the two ubaya nAcchiyAr, the thiru

aranga mAligaiyAr , the feet of moolavar, and the 4 murthis for

snAnam, sayanam, bali and thirttham.
