Guest guest
Dear Sri Dileepan : Thanks for asking , since the gentleman responsible for dropping the ball has not even bothered ( after 127 hours/5 days time intrval since Dec 25 ) to call me or explain or apologize for the pain caused. Since you have been kind enough to respond on behalf of all the organizers , let me brief you for the record on the missing link so that there is no more vagueness . I do not know whether Sri Krishna Kanumalla is a representative of the Ahobila Mutt are not in the context of your remarks .He is the one I would have liked to hear from .He is the one , who promised three times to give me the needed ride and gave the assurance that he will take care of it .On the night before the function , when I checked with him once again , he asked me to be ready at 7 AM on Dec 25 and that Sri Kannan of Syracuse will pick me up at that time .I got myself ready at 7 AM on Dec 25 as per his instruction . On the morning of the function , after no one showed up by 8 AM , I called the temple while all of you were at the Conference site. Sri Krishna K took the phone and told me casually that his " dear friend " Sri Kannan was going to pick me up and he was coming from the NJ Conference site to pick me up .He also mentioned that he was leaving for the site with a car full of people and that he could not give me a ride to the temple .The night before Sri Krishna mentioned that Sri Kannan had lost his way around Nyack " big time " . I should have stopped right there and taken public transportation to be at Stirling since (1) I did not want to miss participation in this rare event (2) I was asked to speak on " AzhwArs and Sri Ranganathan " by two of the organizers (Srimathi Nagu Satyan and Sri S.Rengarajan ) and (3)my name was on the program . I never want to be " a no show " . Lot of my friends , who have not met me also wanted to meet me at this uthsavam . I do not get to see them that often . It would have been a sathsangam in every way . All of this was ruined due to the carelessness and cavalier attitude of Sri Krishna Kanumalla . It is no way to treat any one. It was too late to stop Sri Kannan , who was deputed by Sri Krishna Kalale in a casual fashion to pick me up from NJ site .It was not fair to ask a visitor , who is completely new to the area and on top of it as I learnt later , Sri Kannan had just got his US driver's license (few days ago ) . It was poor judgement on the part of Sri Krishna Kanumalla to put Sri Kannan on the spot. I was waiting to hear from Sri Krishna or any one of the organizers to tell me what was happening until 12 Noon of Dec 25 . I can understand that the organizers were busy with the various functions including Thiruvaimozhi recitations . Some body could have been directed to get in touch with me , even if the principals were busy .Yours is the first response from any body affiliated with this function advising me that no one from Ahobila Muth was responsible for promising me any thing . The easiest thing that you or any one of your team could have done is to take the telephone and ask what happened AFTER the uthsavam was over FROM YOUR HOMES . I do not know whether Krishna Kanumalla is considered as one of the Ahobila Muth or not in the context of your question .If he is so , He should not make any promises that he can not keep relating to the organizational details of these functions .This is no joke. I care a great deal , when I organize such functions and invite speakers form different parts of the country . Even on a holiday , when the public transportation was uncertain , I would have taken the train, bus and Taxi to be there on Dec 25 to keep my commitment. I was embarassed deeply and and more than that forced to stay away from this important Uthsvam which I was dreaming to attend . That is the reason for all this disappointment of being let down. There was a total lack of courtesy of the kind that one would have expected . One telephone call would have cleared up all these things on Dec 25 , while I was completely left to myself to figure out waht might have happened and let to stew . I will never ask anyone from here on for a ride attending such functions . I will take the public transportaion even if it is extremely inconvenient . With all best wishes, V.Sadagopan > >Thu, 30 Dec 1999 13:18:19 -0500 >Not guilty !!! > >> >> Sadagopan [sgopan] >> Monday, December 27, 1999 10:05 AM >> >> A Presentation prepared for NammAzhwAr Moksham ccelebrationat >> Stirling , NJ by Sri RanganAthA Temple of America : Part I >> >> It was indeed a sad day for me .For all of us , >> a promise is a promise and one should bend over backward >> to keep them and if one can not for understandable reasons , >> atleast one should have the courtesy to communicate and explain >> what happened instead of stranding one on the way side . > >Leaving the accused unnamed leaves everyone suspecting >everyone else as the guilty party. Guest guest
Dear Sri Krishna Kalale : My sincere apologies for my TYPO. Thanks for catching it and bringing it to my attention. It should have read Sri Krishna Kanumalla instead of Sri Krishna Kalale. Guest guest
Dear Sri Sadagopan: Here are some more clarifications. Hope this helps clear some confusion. > > Sadagopan [sgopan] > Thursday, December 30, 1999 4:40 PM > > Not guilty !!! > [..] > > I do not know whether Sri Krishna Kanumalla > is a representative of the Ahobila Mutt are not > in the context of your remarks. No, Sri Krishna Kanumalla is NOT a representative of Sri Ahobila Muth, in any context. Indeed he is a Sri Ahobila Mutt Sishya, so are you. > He is the one I would have liked to hear from. > He is the one, who promised three times to give me > the needed ride and gave the assurance that he will > take care of it. adiyEn would like to apologize on behalf of Sri Krishna Kanumalla. If he made a promise he should keep his promise, even if it is not a reasonable promise. Your lecture was part of NAMA conference. If anyone was responsible for providing transportation for local speakers it must be the NAMA organizers. Further, it is a little puzzling that you asked Sri Krishna for transportation in stead of NAMA organizers. > All of this was ruined due to the carelessness > and cavalier attitude of Sri Krishna Kanumalla . > It is no way to treat any one. People from all across the U.S. came down to NY/NJ for this function. Male, female, children, aged, all helped in making this function a grand success. Some helped in cooking, some helped with preparing garland, some helped with washing vessels, some helped with ArAdhanai, some helped with the shop selling calendar, magnet. t-shirts, etc., some helped cleaning up, some helped carrying the Dhivya Mangala Vighrahas, even a 72 year old bhagavatha helped carry Vigrahas. It was not a simple task to take 14 vighrahas from the temple (Sri Venkat Swami's house) to the NJ Hall. It was a great sight to see each and everyone eagerly wanting to help in one way or another. No one demanded that they needed one thing or another. Everyone wanted to help. Many worked late into the night and woke up quite early so that hundreds of people are properly fed, paraayaNam is done according to schedule, all the ArAdhani are performed properly, etc. Since some of the Vighrahas were left behind at the temple (Sri Venkat's house) ArAdhanai had to be performed at the temple as well. Krishna was the one who had to shunt back and forth between the hall and the temple. Krishna had to go to the temple after finishing all the tasks at the Hall and then cook for Perumal and complete the ArAdhanai. By the time he finished all that and went to bed it probably was quite late into the night. After a late night he had to wake up early, finish the morning ArAdhanai at the temple and then come to the hall and help out in the kitchen, serving food, cleaning up, etc. On the day of Nammazhvar moksham there was so much crowd we ran out of prasadham. It was Krishna who worked tirelessly and managed to serve prasadham to the satisfaction of everyone. Many elders do not show such selfless responsibility as this young man. The service he renders to bhagavathaas must serve as a role model for all, young and old. Krishna is just 25 with a full time job, yet he does Aradhanai at the temple two times a day, including ThirumadappaLLi work for Perumal. Until recently he was also giving a ride, daily, to and from the construction site for the 10 sthapatees staying in his house. This resulted in going to late to work sometimes that finally resulted in Krishna loosing his job. With Lord Ranganathas's grace he got even a better job now. Krishna is a tireless worker for Sri Ranganatha temple. He does all this with such a pleasant outlook, smiling face, and a friendly attitude that it is hard not to admire Krishna. Not many among us have demonstrated such commitment to bhagavath and bhagavatha kainkaryam. Due to his youth and the eagerness to serve perhaps he sometime makes promises that are just impossible to keep even for a superman. > Yours is the first response from any body > affiliated with this function advising me that no one > from Ahobila Muth was responsible for promising me > any thing . > > The easiest thing that you or any one of your team > could have done is to take the telephone and ask > what happened AFTER the uthsavam was over FROM > YOUR HOMES . Once again, Sri Sadagopan, Sri Ahobila Muth was responsible only for the Adyayana utsavam. We had no role in making transportation arrangements for speakers, local speakers or speakers from elsewhere. > > I do not know whether Krishna Kanumalla is > considered as one of the Ahobila Muth or not > in the context of your question. He is not associated with Sri Ahobila Muth except that he is a Sri Sannithi sishya just as much as you are. > If he is so, He should not make any promises > that he can not keep relating to the organizational details > of these functions. You are absolutely right, he should not have made this promise, especially considering the fact that public transportation is so convenient and you are quite familiar with them. In fact somebody in the hall, not quite sure now who it was, mentioned that you took down the directions to the hall from the train/bus station and that you are expected to come to the hall by yourself. Apparently he was mistaken. -- dileepan
