SRIMAD BHAGAVAD GITA

- translation by Sri.V.N.Gopala Desikan

Chapter IV

slOkA 34

tad viddhi pranipAtena pariprashnena sevayA

upadeksyanti te jnAnam jnAninas tattva-darshinah

Translation :

Viddhi - Learn

tad - that

pranipAtena - by prostrating,

pariprashnena - by questioning

sevayA - and by service.

jnAninah - Wise men

tattva-darshinah - who see the truth

upadekshyanti - will teach

te - you

jnanam - this knowledge.

Learn that by prostrating, by questioning and by service.

Wise men who see the truth will teach you this

knowledge.

Commentary : So you should learn this knowledge relating to

the soul, by prostrating and serving the wise people; and

by extensively questioning them to clear your doubts. So,

while practising karma yOgA, you will learn about the soul,

from wise people, who have had vision of the essential

nature of the soul. Being honoured by you , by prostrating

and serving etc., they will teach you the real knowledge

of the soul.
