Guest guest
Sri: Sri Lakshminrisimha Parabrahmane Namaha Sri Ramanujaya Namaha Sri Nigamantha Mahadesikaya Namaha SRIMAD BHAGAVAD GITA - translation by Sri.V.N.Gopala Desikan Chapter IV slOkA 39 shraddhAvAl labhate jnAnam tat-parah samyatendriyah jnAnam labdhvA parAm shAntim achirenAdhigacchati Translation: shraddhAvAn - He who has faith labdhvA - after obtaining jnAnam - knowledge, tat-parah - and concentrating in it(knowledge), samyatendriyah - controlling his indriyAs, labhate - gets jnAnam - further deep knowledge achirena - very soon; Adhigacchati - and also gets parAm - supreme shAntim - peace. He who has faith after obtaining knowledge, and concentrating in it(knowledge), controlling his indriyAs, gets further deep knowledge very soon; and also gets supreme peace. Commentary : A person gets this knowledge, from instructions of the wise people, (as explained in slOkA 34). He then starts developing his mind to improve that knowledge further. He concentrates his mind only on that knowledge. His senses are controlled and kept away from all other worldly objects. Soon afterwards, he obtains full knowledge. Then , he attains supreme bliss and peace, arising from realisation of the soul. slOkA 40 ajnas chAsraddadhAnas cha samshayAtmA vinashyati nAyam lOkosti na paro na sukham samshayAtmanah Translation : ajnah cha - An ignorant person ashraddadhAnah cha - and one without faith samshyAtmA - and a doubting person vinasyati - (such a person) perishes. samshyAtmanah - For one who is of a doubting nature ayam lOkah - this world na asti - is not there; na parah - nor mOkshA na sukham - nor happiness. An ignorant person and one without faith and a doubting person : (such a person) perishes. For one who is of a doubting nature this world is not there; nor mOkshA , nor happiness. Commentary : A person who is ignorant of this knowledge; or who does not have interest in learning this; or who is of a doubting mind, about this knowledge; perishes, i.e, gets lost. The man who has a doubting mind, about this knowledge of the soul, does not get even the worldly pleasures like wealth and fulfillment of desire. There is no question of his attaining mOkshA. Why ? Even the worldly pleasures like wealth can be attained, only by doing the rites prescribed in the sAstrAs, with the knowledge that the soul is different from the body. So, the man with the doubting mind about the soul, does not get any happiness at all. adiyEn, balaji (Courtesy : Sri Visishtadvaita Research Centre)
