A clarification on Pratardana Vidya, which is one amongst the 32 Brahma Vidyas : The clarification is that, in Pratardana Vidya, the upAsaka has to meditate on Brahman, with the " jIvAtma " Indra as its SarIra. Ofcourse, for the sake of identification of Indra, his material body is also essential. The point made is that, such an upAsana (bhakti-yOga) will not amount to anyadEvata worship, since it is a Brahma Vidya that needs to be performed in that way, as per the wish of SrIman nArAyaNa, the Brahman. Also, jIvAtma sAkshAtkAram is a pre-requisite of bhakti-yOga and a upAsaka has to constantly meditate on himself ie. the self also (while the primary meditation is on Brahman, as the SarIri of oneself) while adopting any bhakti yOga. Thus, meditating on a jIvAtma by itself is not a taboo for an upAsaka and it will not amount to anya-dEvata worship. adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, anantapadmanAbha dAsan. -----------------------
