SRIMAD BHAGAVAD GITA - translation by Sri.V.N.Gopala Desikan Chapter IV slOkA 41 yOga-sannyasta-karmAnam jnAna-sanchinna-samshayam Atmavantam na karmAni nibadhnanti dhananjaya Translation : dhananjaya - ArjunA ( winner of health), karmAni - past karmAs na nibadhnanti - do not bind yOga-sannyasta-karmAnam - a person who has knowledge contained in this karma yOgA samshayam - and has his doubts sanchinna - cleared jnAna - by such knowledge Atmavantam - and has a steady mind ArjunA ( winner of health) , past karmAs do not bind a person who has knowledge contained in this karma yOgA and has his doubts cleared by such knowledge and has a steady mind. Commentary : A person who does this karma yOgA; giving up the thought that he is the doer; being free from all doubts in regard to the nature of the soul; and is thus of a firm mind about his objective of realising the soul; is not bound by countless karmAs of the past, which result in the bondage of samsArA. slOkA 42 tasmAd ajnAna-sambhUtam hrt-stham jnAnAsinAtmanah chittvainam samshayam yogam Atisthottishta bhArata Translation : BhArata - ArjunA ( of Bharata clan) tasmAt - therefore chittvA - cutting asinA - by the sword jnAna - of knowledge enam - this samshayam - doubt Atmanah - concerning the jivAtmA, hrt-stham - which is in your mind, sambhUtam - born ajnAna - out of ignorance; Atishtha - practise yogam - karma yOgA. uttishtha - Arise. ArjunA ( of Bharata clan), therefore cutting the sword of knowledge this doubt concerning the jivAtmA, which is in your mind , born out of ignorance; practise karma yOgA . Arise. Commentary : Therefore , ArjunA , cut off all your doubts about the soul, caused by ignorance and rooted in your heart,with this sword of knowledge about the soul.
