Guest guest
Dear BhakthAs: There was a question about the RaamAnuja Jayanthi fallin on May 7 or May 8. We go thru this problem often in determination of the selection of the day for a Thirunakshathram in North America versus India . Often , the festival day is earlier in North America than in India. The case in point is Sri RaamAnuja Jayanthi . In India , it is Monday , May 8 .Sri Ahobila matam observes the Jayanthi at ThirunArAyaNapuram on May 8. For us of Sri matam sampradhAyam , t is May 7 , if one wishes to look at it strictly from the thithi at the place of obsevance. The assumption is that the Thithi is a geo-centric phenomenon. It happens that in North America , Chitthirai ThiruvAdhirai is on a sukla Paksha chathurthi thithi and in India , it is a day later on panchami thithi .Last year, Sri RaamAnuja Jayanthi fell on Sukla Paksha shashti thithi. These confusions arise form thithi sphuta (thithi duration ) issues a tthe PLACE OF OBSERVANCE. My own position is tht AchArya RaamAnujA is to be saluted everyday and hence celebration for two consecutive days is just fine. from the PanchAngam point of view however, the Thithi sphutam determinations suggest that May 7 is the day for the celebration of Sri RaamAnuja Jayanthi in Americas and May 8 is the day for celebrations in India . It is also the day of ApuLLAr's Thirunakshathram . V.Sadagopan
