SRIMAD BHAGAVAD GITA

- translation by Sri.V.N.Gopala Desikan

slOkA 6

sannyAsas tu mahA-bAho duhkham Aptum ayogatah

yOga-yukto munir brahma na chirenAdhigacchathi

Translation :

mahA-bAho - ArjunA ( of mighty arms),

sannyAsas tu - but jnAna yOgA

duhkham - is difficult

Aptum - to attain

ayogatah - without karma yOgA.

yOga-yuktO - One who remains in karma yOgA

munir - is also a sage

Adhigacchathi - (and he) attains

brahma - the jivAtmA

na chirena - very soon.

ArjunA ( of mighty arms), but jnAna yOgA is difficult

to attain with out karma yOgA. One who remains in karma

yOgA is also a sage (and he) attains the jivAtmA very

soon.

Commentary : JnAna yOgA, however ,cannot be attained without

karma yOgA. But , a person doing karma yOgA and meditating

on his soul, realises the soul, without delay in a short

time. But jnAna yOgA is difficult to do and the person doing

this yOgA attains the soul, after a long time.
