SRIMAD BHAGAVAD GITA

- translation by Sri.V.N.Gopala Desikan

slOkA 7

yoga-yukto vishuddhAtmA vijitAtmA jitendriyah

sarva-bhUtAtmA-bhUtAtmA kurvann api na lipyate

Translation :

yoga-yukto - He, who remains in karma yOgA

vishuddhAtmA - and has a pure mind,

vijitAtmA - who has conquered his mind

jitendriyah - and who has conquered his indriyAs

AtmA - and has his soul

bhat - having become

Atma - the soul

sarva bhUta - of all beings;

kurvann api - although doing works

na lipyate - (he) is not tainted.

He, who remains in karma yOgA and has a pure mind,

and who has conquered his mind and who has conquered

his indriyAs and has his soul having become the soul

of all beings; although doing works , (he) is not

tainted.

Commentary : A person, who is devoted to karma yogA , performs

his activities, as prescribed by the sAstrAs and as a form of

worship of the Supreme Lord, He thus becomes pure in mind,

free from rajas and tamas. He has also controlled his mind, by

engaging it in proper activities. By controlling the mind, he

has also controlled the senses(indriyAs).

His soul has become the soul of all beings. This

means that the souls of all beings including dEvAs, are all of

the same form of pure knowledge.

There is no difference at all in the souls of

different beings, including dEvAs. They are all the same, in

their essential nature. The differences between the various

beings are only in regard to their bodies ( and not in regard

to their souls).

Such a person, while engaged in karma yOgA, does not

get tainted by false knowledge about his soul, thinking that his

body and soul are the same. He thus realises that soul without

delay.
