A day in Sri Sannidhi - Part 1: From Ashramam to Sannidi

------------------------

(This post is based on adiyEn's stay at Selaiyur where

Srimad Azhagiya Singar is presently undertaking the

9th Chaturmasya Sankalpam from July 16th to Sep 14, 2000.

The daily routine during Sancaram may not be the same.)

The day begins at about 5:30 a.m. with the playing of

" kottu " a combination of musical instruments such as

" paRai " , " Thiruchchinnam " , and " Jalra " . This serves as

a wake up call for those who are not already up. If you

wait for the 'Kottu " to get up you will have only about

an hour and 10 minutes to get ready. You may have to

rush through your morning routine.

At about 6:40 a.m. Thavil, Nadaswaram and Thiruchchinnam

are ready in front of Srimad Azhagiya Singar's Ashramam

waiting for the signal. The cowherd is giving a bath to

the cow and calf. As Srimad Azhagiya Singar finishes

anushtanam and places the white cloth back in Sri

Thridhandam HH summons a kainkaryapara. This is the

signal for " Vadyam " to start. To the sound of Thavil,

Nadaswaram, and Thiruchchinnam, Srimad Azhagiya Singar

emerges from Anushtanam.

It is a great feeling to prostrate at the lotus feet of

Srimad Azhagiya Singar as HH emerges from anushtanam.

HH puts on the padhukai and makes the short walk to the

adjacent building wherein resides Sri Malola. As Srimad

Azhagiya Singar walks with Sri Thridhandam in HH's

divine hands, kainkaryaparas follow with one holding an

ornamental umbrella, one carrying water in the kamandalam,

one carrying saamaram and another the silver-dhandam used

to keep the devotees from coming too close and accidentally

touch Srimad Azhagiya Singar's thirumeni.

More devotees fall on the ground and prostrate. Srimad

Azhagaiya Singar always enquires about the welfare of

the devotees with a graceful smile.

Reaching the steps of the adjacent building Srimad

Azhagiya Singar takes off the padhukai and awaits the

kainkaryapara with the kamandalam to pour water at HH's

holy feet. After washing HH's feet, Srimad Azhagiya

Singar enters the building. Some of us following along

now get to sprinkle the Sri Padha Theertham upon our

heads. One of us get to carry the Padhukai upon our

head into the building for safe keeping near the

entrance.

(Most people come to the Sri Mutham at about 9:00

a.m., in time for Theertham and Catari. They miss

this golden opportunity for touching and sprinkling

the Sri Padha Theertham. Therefore, if you ask me,

the best time to come to Sri Mutham is 6:30 a.m.

just before Srimad Azhagiya Singar leaves the

Ashramam. This way we get to fall at the louts

feet of Acaryan as HH goes to Sri Malolan for

Abhigamana Aradhanai, and also later after HH

finisihes the Abhigamana Aradahanai, and the

opportunity to touch and sprinkle Sri Pada

theertham upon our head.)

As Srimad Azhagiya Singar approaches Sri Sannithi more

people prostrate. Then, after Srimad Azhagiya Singar

has gone near the Silver Mandapam where SriMalola is

in Yoganidrai, the curtain is drawn. The rest of the

devotees wait outside for a cue from Srimad Azhagiya

Singar to start the recitation of Sri Lakshminrisimha

Suprabhatam composed by the 30th Azhagiya Singar, Sri

Srinivasa Vedanta Yatindra Mahadesikan.

.... to be continued

Dear Sri Sannidhi SishyAs :

We are very fortunate indeed to have

the postings from Sri Dileepan on

" A day in Sri Sannidhi " . For most of us,

who do not have the BhAgyam of being with

HH Srimath Azhagiya Singar for extended

periods of time (even for one day ) ,

this series of postings from a BhAgyavanthan

blessed with extended stay at the sacred feet of

Parama hamsa ParivrAjaka Srimath Azhagiyasingar ,

is going to be like amrutha Mazhai.

Our Vrutthti after Prapatthi anushtAnam

is and has to be SarvathA AchArya DhyAnam.

The visualization of AchAryA's daily activities

through the eyes of a devout BhaagavathA

like Sri ParthasArathy Dileepan is one of

the greatest of blessings . The Souseelyam and

Dayaa of our dearest and most revered AchAryan is

self-evident during His Tele-upanyAsams .

The feeling during and the state after these

Tele-upanyAsams on Saturday Mornings

are like Sarkarai Pandalil tEn (honey )mazhai

pozhindhAr pOlE " . To be able to hear

the aruL Mozhis of our most revered AchAryan

in person is a blessing indeed beyond comparison.

On behalf of all of us benefiting from

the Tele-upanyAsams on KaNNInuNN SiRutthAmpu

by our precious AchAryan , adiyEn's deep

salutations to Sriman Dileepan for all

the parishramams to make this paripUrNAnantha

anubhavam come our way .Saturday Mornings

during this ChAthur Maasyam have been special

and sacred thanks to the apAra krupai and

anuhitha Vaathsalyam of our dearest AchAryan.

Let us all resolve to fulfill the manOratham

of our revered AchAryan with respect to realizing

the Core funds for Sri MalOlan's NithyArAdhanam

and begin the process of pledging the utmost so that

we can reach the goals before the next

ChAthur Maasyam amd place our SamarpaNam

at the most sacred feet of HH Srimath Azhagiya Singar.
