The silken robe, although inanimate, grips the thighs thight, litreally enamoured of their charming appearance. Sri Mahalaxmi qnd Sri Bhudevi, who massage the lord's thighs, rest on them when tired. The shee of the flowing robes enhances the beauty of the thighs. "Methinks, the flooding beauty, flowing like a river on the lord's winsome chest down to the navel, has branched off as the twin thighs. How enchanting! No wonder, my mind keeps revelling in it." Such is Swamy Vedantha Desika's trend of thought, as revealed by him in this song virtually falling in line woth the pattern of "amalanAthipirAn". ===================================================================================== slokA 5 : samprInati prarikalamasau mAnasam me sujAtA gambhIratvAkvachancsamaye gUdhaniksiota visva | nAlikenasphurita rajasA vedhasAnirmamAnA ramyAvartadyutisahacarI ranganAthasya nAbhm || 5 || (From the thighs to the navel) How is the navel of " Ani Arangan"? So deep it is, that one can very well imagine how indeed the lord held within, during the deluge, the worlds, one and all, with theor contents, mobile and stationary. From it's depth emegred the lotus stalk whose flower with numerous sparkling petals is the seat of origin of the countless brahmAs. The lord's navel looks like the whirlpool with it;s vortex, deep down. formed while surging beauty of the lord's various limbs in the upper regions rolls down, in sate. The poet's mind swells up with joy every moment, as it contemplates the beauty of lord ranganAthA's deep-set navel (nimagna nAbhi). It also occurs to him that the setting is suggestive of al allegorical import - the comportment of a chaste woman, born in a good family. She would suppress in her mind, the internal bickerings of the family without publicising them, in the least. Such a good natured lady gives birth to dutiful sons, of high degree of exceellence like brahmA and lives happily with her husband. ===================================================================================== slokA 6 : srivatsenaprathita vibhavam sripadanyAsadhanyam madhyAmcAhuh manivararuchA ranjitham rangadhAmnah | sAndracchAyam taryitulasI chitrayavaijayanyyA santApam me samayatidhiyah candrikodArahAram || 6 || (From the navel to the chest) " The lord's chest displays the lovely mole, knows as 'sri vatsA'. It also bears the saffron-smeared foot prints of thAyar ranganAyaki, inseprably poised on it. Decorated by the ruby, 'koustubha', it's red sheen, of exceptional brilliance, enhancees the charm of the lord's blue complexion manifold. To cao it all, there is the impressive srray of garlands, the unique ' vaijayanthi mAlA', the pearl necklance, cool and refreshing like the moon-shine and the swweet scent of tulasi wreaths. The lord's chest, in such an exhilarating setting, cools me (Swamy Vedantha Desika) down, eliminatin, in toto, the terrific heat generated by the turmoil in my mind." ===================================================================================== To be continued........................ adiyEn sri mAlola narasimha dAsan, Malolan Cadambi _______Get your free @ address at
