The right arm, held akimbo(bent upwards), points to his crown, the symbol of his overlordship of brahmA, rudrA ad all else, while the left arm, stretching down to the knee, points to the lord's feet, down below, the have, sure and safe, for the supplicants. [ Refer the slokA " kiritam sri rangesayatur.....AjAnu nihitah " in " Sri RangarAjastvam " of Sri PrasAra Bhattar.] Thus the tow arms of Lord Rangantha proclaim the unique blend,in him,of unrivalled supremacy and amazing simplicity. Even as the close associates of bigwigs get puffed up with pride, achArya Vedanta Desikar's mind, on getting hold of Lord Ranganathas' arms of great potentiality, got swollen with pride and ran amok like a male elephant. But then, it was tamed and chained to the sturdy pole, the lord's shoulders, by means of chains, in the form of the owerpowering radiance of the lord's jewels. And now, acharya vedanta desikar's mind revels in the sweet contemplation of the shoulders, the might and majesty. ================================================================================\ ==== slokA eight: sAbhiprAyasmita vikasitam cArubimbAdharostham duhkhAoAyapranayanijane dUradattAbhimuknyam | kAtam vaktramkAnakatilakAlankrtam rangabhartuh svAntegAdham vilagatimama svAgatidAranetram || 8 || The jubilation of Lord Ranganatha in beholding the devotees, dear to him, compels him to relax the norms of his iconic manifestation. He exhibits them, his sparkling smiles, lighting up, at once, his coral lips and face, bringing into their focus their exceptional charm. Tormented by the meaner cares of earthly life, the devotees are on their way to the shrine worship the lord and secure from whom the much needed mental respite. The omniscient lord (seemingly asleep, relaxed in bed) reads the pulse of each one of them and faces them even when they are still at some distance. And, as they enter the sanctum, a little later, he sheds on them his exuberant grace. The golden 'tilkas' on his face illumines it. His lovely pair of lotus-eyes beam forth warm welcome to the worshippers. " ha! such an enchanting face of Lord Ranganatha is deeply imprinted in my psyche. " exclaims acharya vedanta desikar. ================================================================================\ ===== slokA 9 (most important) : mAlyairantassthira parimalairvallabhAsparsamAnyaih kupyaccolIvacanakutilaih slistamUle rathApIdadyuti sabalite rangabhartuh kirIte rAjascatya sthitimadhijatA vrttayascetasome || 9 || [The ladder (sopAnam) has taken acharya vedanta desikar to the very top, the lord's majestic crown, unlike pAn peerumAl whose mental upward march got halted on the way, literally cordoned off by the lord's enchanting eyes] In this sloka, acharya vedanta desikar acknowledges how his turbulent mind, the wandering wits, got steadied by the lord's crown and how, as a result thereof, he now remains calm and collected. As observed every now and then, the lord's crown symbolizes his sovereignty of the whole universe. It's aristocratic aroma gets flavoured further by the fragrance of the lord's locks, tuckled inside, what with their natural aroma and the fragrance of the flowers, worn on them augmented still further by the combing of the locks by the sweet smelling divine couple - their fragrant touch! The lord's locks are curly [vide. 'lalAta paryanta vilambitAlakam - Stotra Ratna - 35]. The curly locks are among the facets of the physiognomy of the great ones - 'uttama purusa lakshna'. The sheen of Ornaments, set with may a gem, throwing up a variety of colours,is reflected in the crown, making it look multi-coloured, a spectrum of matchless grandeur! Here then is a monarchy with an ideal king ruling over it. In the new dispensation there is no longer any room for chaos and anarchy, which had bedevilled acharya vedanta desikar's mutinous mind earlier. ================================================================================\ ===== To be continued................ adiyEn sri mAlola narasimha dAsan, Malolan Cadambi _______ Get your free @ address at
