Thanks to SrI Hari for giving the appropriate answer and references below. In the same logic, AchAryas say, AndAL also to be PeriAzhwAr's thiruvadi and She refers Herself only as " BhattarpirAn kOdai " in Her pAsurams. Since a sishya is an anga (part) of an AchArya, there is no need to list out the sishya separately. > This is why Swamy Vedanta Desikar refer to only 10 alwars > (dashAvatAram). Also, by refering only to SrImath NamAlwAr, all > the other AlwArs are also refered because, SrImath NamAlwAr's vaibhavam > is of such greatness which takes in to account the greatness of > all AlwArs. > > When Swamy Vedanta Desikar refer to only 10 alwars (dashAvatAram), > please do not think that Swamy has not mentioned SrI Madurakavi > and SrI AndAl. Their vaibhavams are separately mentioned in detail. > Refer " tunbatRa madurakavi thondrak kaattum tholvazhiyE nalvazhigaL > thuNivArgatkE " , " GOdAmananya SaraNa: SaraNam prapadyE " (GOdA-sthuthi). ------------------- There are some who unwantedly stir up controversies/confusions that AzhwArs as being Niyta-SUris was not stated by SwAmi DESikan and it was only a 17th Century concept formulated by Vadagalai AchAryas. aDiyEn will write on this issue sometime this week. aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, anantapadmanAbhan. Guest guest
Dear SrI MAlOlan CadAmbi, You have written: >I have a small doubt regarding the term " abhinava dashAvatAram " which >was coined by swamy vedanta desikar. Swamy vedanta desikar terms the >alwars as abhinava dashAvatAram. But as I understand, there are 12 >alwars in number. >Why does Swamy Vedanta Desikar refer to only 10 alwars (dashAvatAram)? My points attempting to answer your question are: SrI Madurakavi is SrImath NamAlwAr's Tiru-vadi. SrI AndAl is Bhagavath-NAchiyAr. This is why Swamy Vedanta Desikar refer to only 10 alwars (dashAvatAram). Also, by refering only to SrImath NamAlwAr, all the other AlwArs are also refered because, SrImath NamAlwAr's vaibhavam is of such greatness which takes in to account the greatness of all AlwArs. When Swamy Vedanta Desikar refer to only 10 alwars (dashAvatAram), please do not think that Swamy has not mentioned SrI Madurakavi and SrI AndAl. Their vaibhavams are separately mentioned in detail. Refer " tunbatRa madurakavi thondrak kaattum tholvazhiyE nalvazhigaL thuNivArgatkE " , " GOdAmananya SaraNa: SaraNam prapadyE " (GOdA-sthuthi). Thanks & Regards M.S.HARI Ramanuja Daasan. __________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=
