Guest guest
SrI: Dear members, Though the following was a private mail between SrI Sadagopan and myself, aDiyEn felt that it can be made public because it was on SrI UttamUr SwAmi. aDiyEn is sure that SrI Sadagopan will approve this. aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, anantapadmanAbhan. ------------------- SrImad abhinava dESika vAtsya VeerarAghavArya mahAdESikAya namaH namO nArAyaNa ! Dear SrI SaThakOpan, > The above packages arrived. > Please accept my sincere thanks > for your help in acquiring these treasures, > which will take many life times to go through > and begin to understand the rich kula dhanam > left behind by Sri Abhinava Desika > UtthamUr Swamy. It is mind boggling to > think about how one MahAn was able to > accomplish all this and more in a single life time. Nice to hear about the arrival of the sea-mail packages reg UttamUr SwAmi's Books. As you have rightly pointed out, vidvAns of that period had no other choice but to award the title " abhinava dESika " for the mind-boggling achievements of comparitive merit wrt the original dESika, based upon his outstanding and deep scholarship in many SAstras. Incidently, SrI PerukkAraNai swAmi told in a private conversation last week that in comparison to the pANDityam of SrI UttamUr SwAmi, his scholarship is like a drop in the former's <UttamUr SwAmi's> ocean <of PANDityam>. Swami added a wonderful comparison based upon a verse by a kavi : The vAnara-army of Lord RAma crossed the ocean effortlessly because of the bridge on the surface of the water. But if you question them on the depth of the ocean, they can't answer. Similarly, while both himself and SrI UttamUr SwAmi have crossed a ocean <ie. read many books ; written commentaries etc on SAstras>, he can't tell about the depth of the ocean of SAstras, while SrI Uttamur SwAmi did that too. More moving was that, after telling this, PerukkAraNai swAmi made a big anjalai for SrI UttamUr SwAmi raising his hand above the head and said that " SwAmi pOla yArum vara muDiyADu ...SarvatOmukha PANDityam " <None can be like UttamUr SwAmi; Outstanding scholarship on all sides of SAstras>. When even a mahA VidvAn of PerukkAraNai SwAmi's caliber (a leading vidvAn with great merit) is holding SrI UttamUr SwAmi in such high esteem, aDiyEn is not able to imagine the greatness of " abhinava dESika " . SrI KarunAkaran SwAmi makes it a point to deliever the insights of SrI UttamUr SwAmi in the topic of his upanyAsam/kAlakshEpam. SwAmi felt very much and told me after an upanyAsam related to Divya Prabandham : " We are doing total injustice to SrI UttamUr SwAmi who has blessed us with such treasures. There are so many gems after gems of wonderful insights and nirvAhams in Prabandha Rakshai vyAkyAnam. In so many places, swAmi has improvised SrI PeriavAcchAn PiLLai's vyAkyAnam. Its a pity that hardly do vidvAns take time and energy to read them properly and propagate these amazing contributions by UttamUr SwAmi. We should make it a point to do this propagation without fail " . --------------------- By the way, aDiyEn has sent 25 ThiruppAvai books through sea-mail for you. aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, anantapadmanAbhan.
