EithIhyam has it that Swamy Desikan composed this magnificent ashtakam to help the people of Thirupputkkuzhi from a strange fever . These things are hard to verify. These have come to us via KarNa paramparai. It is not unusual for Swamy Desikan to help others in dire straits . The help to BrahmachAri at Kaanchi and the prayer to Sri Devi in the form of Sri Sthuthi is well documented. > >2.Swamy Desikan intended to compose >'Paramathabhangam', a book with deep import to >combat the false ideology of rival schools of >relegious thought. Yes, Swamy Desikan pays tribute to Sudarsana BhagavAn (AnapAya Prabhaa of the Lord) at the beginning and the end of Para Matha Bhangam . Infact , the brilliant commentary on Paramatha Bhangam by Abinava Desika UthamUr Swamy is named " AnapAya PrabhA " . I will write about these two slOkams eulogizing Sudarsana BhagavAn Later. The first salutation is for Sudarsana Moortham with 8 arms adorning 8 weapons as seen In Sri ChakrapANI Uthsavar at KumbakONam ( Thirukkudanthai ) and the final slOkam is for the Sudarsana Moorthy with 16 arms as saluted in Sri ShOdasAyudha SthOthram . The addition of 8 with 16 gives us the number 24 , which are the chapters of Paramatha Bhangam .Even this great Sri Sookthi has controversies as to where it was completed. It was started in front of Sri DevanAtha perumAL at the environs of ThiruvahIndhrapuram .Some say , it was completed at Sathyamangalam in Kongu Naadu. Others say , it was completed at Thiruvahindrapuram . It does not matter to us to worry about these different points of view . What matters is the treasure presented to us and future generations by Swamy Desikan in this MahA grantham following th path of his PoorvAchAryAs , Vedams , Upanishads Brahama Soothram and AzhwAr AruLiccheyalkaL.
