Dear devotees,

 

This is an invitation from SrI TV SrInivAsarAghavan

and SrI TV RAjagOpAlan, the two sons of the illustrious

SrI " abhinava dESika " UttamUr VeerarAghavAchArya swAmi,

for the thiruppAvai upanyAsams being conducted at

SrI UttamUr SwAmi's thirumALigai.

 

Those at chennai are kindly requested to attend the

upanyAsams at their convenience.

of the prefix/suffixes. Your words bear the hallmark of a true

Srivaishnava-which only increases your stature several fold. However,

adiyen firmly believes that You are every bit deserving of the

accolades that have come your way. Again the conferring of these

titles upon you bear eloquent testimony to Swami Desikan's Sri Stuthi

salutations: " DhArayanthE DhanAyAm " , " VanchitAnAm vasUnAm " , " Chattra

Chaya shubhaga shirasaschamarsmErapArshva " , and the Daya Shatakam

salutation " ShArnga DhanvAnukampa " .

Dear Sri Anand Swamin,

AdiyEn thank you very much for the invitation.It will be definetely be a

great treat to the ears to listen to different scholors's expositions on the

Thiruppavai which is the quintessence of visishtadvaitha philosophy.The

upanyasams and the lecturers themselves acquire all the more imporatnce as

most of them happen to be the deciples of the Great Abhinava Desika Swamy

who sanctified and glorified the venue Sidhasramam where the venerable Swamy

propagated our Satsampradayam to all who approached him.Adien too had the

privelege and baghyam of attending some of the kalakshepams of our Swamy.

From DevarIr's postings it is discernable about the zeal,gnana,vairagya

anushtana seelas acquired by devarIr even at this young age.It is All the

more appropriate to address DevarIr as " Swamin " ,U.VE.,Vidwan and Acharya

etc. and to shun these prefixes as done will only enhance the Srivaishnava

qualities in DevarIr imbibed from DevarIr's illustrious father and

ancestors.As rightly observed by Sriman Sri Sathakopa Swamin,our net

Acharya,the very nature to abhor the respectful prefixes by devarIr is

reflected in the 15th pasuram, " NAnethAn Ayuduga " the line truly bring out

only DevarIr's svabhavika humility.

It is Adien's prayers to the Sharanya Dampathis to shower on devarIr Dheerga

ayur arogya aroga dridagathram and aiswaryam to continue the excellent

kainkaryams being done to our Great SathSampradyam.

There is no doubt that devarIr will be one of the illustrious torchbearers

and beacons of our Great Desika Sampradaya...The signs are already there for

us to see.

Thanks a lot for sharing your heart-felt feelings and

encouragement to aDiyEn. Though we have had very few years

of acquaintance, SrI Malolan Net has made us live

together as family members. It has united us all who

are like-minded in performing kainkaryams to AchAryas,

BhAgavatas and Divya-Dampati with sAtvika-tyAgam

within the limits bestowed upon us by SrIman nArAyaNa.

 

Your replies show the enormous amount of love and affection

you hold for aDiyEn.

Last year, aDiyEn was asked to perform the upanyAsam for

avatArikai (Introduction) and first four pAsurams - which

aDiyEn took by choice. This year, when my uncle gave the

choice, aDiyEn opted for the 13-15 slot because of this

" yellE iLankiLiyE " pAsuram housing " nAnEthAn aayiDuga " ,

which is regarded as ThiruppAvai in ThiruppAvai.This

pAsuram is arguably the most important of all the thirty verses.

While " SiRRam SirukAlE " pAsuram teaches us the way one has

to be at Bhagavad sannidi, " yellE ILankiLiyE " teaches the way

one has to be at BhAgavatha sannidi. Atleast by speaking on

this, aDiyEn hopes to receive the blessings of AnDAL and

AchAryas apart from Divya Dampati for improving my

nishThai. Thanks to SrI SaThakOpan for kindly pointing out

the most important message from this pAsuram.

As we all know, SrI Hari has had more kAlakshEpam of

sampradAya granthams and is doing lot of kainkaryams.

While SrI MuraLidhar's regards and affection for me is

well understandable with we being good friends, aDiyEn

would like to share my humble opinion regarding those prefixes

and suffixes :

 

a. " SwAmi " can be added as a suffix to those SrI VaishNavas

who are either elderly Or even younger with good

anushThAnam.

 

b. " AchArya " can be suffixed to either those who deliver

kAlakshEpam on granta chatushThaya (Or even on anyone

of those) Or to those who perform SamASrayanam /

Bhara-nyAsam.

 

c. U.Ve. (Ubhaya VEdAnta <vidvAn>) can be prefixed to

those who have undergone traditional kAlakshEpam under

a SadAchArya on atleast SrI BhAshyam and ThiruvAimozhi

(6000 paDi) and is well-versed in them.

 

Well, how far this is in conformity with general practical

usage among SrI VaishNavas is a question mark. Neverthless,

aDiyEn would like to stick to my opinions in the light of

the spirit with which those are to be awarded.
