Dear BhakthAs:

HH Srimath Azhagiya Singar offered at the outset His salutations

to Malolan and then recited Madhura Kavi Prabhandham's Taniyan.

HH mentioned that He missed the opportunity of KaalakshEpam

to this group due to the rigors of recent sanchanaarams and that

the opportunity to have aanandha sallAbham with this devout

group of overses sishyAs was very much missed by Him.

HH pointed out in His prefatory remarks that the ninth paasuram,

the topic of today's discussion is a deep and delightful one

( adhbhutham) because it focused on one of the highest

Sri VaishNavite doctrines, Bhaagavatha Seshathvam celebrated by

Swamy NammAzhwAr in His two ThiruvAimozhi (TVM)Paasurams:

1) Payilum SudaroLi-- TVM:3.7

2) NedumARRkkuadimai--TVM:8.10

(EmperumAnAr used to tell His KaalakshEpa GhOshti

that the meanings of the above decads were executed

earlier in to action by Sathruganan , the Nithya Sathrugnan.

Eedu avathArikai discussed earlier by Srimath Azhagiya Singar

has covered the saamyam/identity between Madhura Kavi-

NammazhwAr relationship to that of Sathrugnan-Bharathan.

The essence of Sathrugnan's life was victory over his

inner enemies and practising BhAgavatha Seshathvam

through Kaimkaryam to Bharathan.Again EmperumAnAr used to

say : " Bharathan was the one, who did not know any one

except PerumAL/Raamachandran.His glory arose form that

BhAgavath Seshathvam. He thus became dear to the Lord.

Sathrugnan did not know of any one or any thing except

BharathAzhwAn.This is what made Sathrugnan revered for

all times and dear to the Lord through this practise

of BhAgavatha Seshathvam . " These celebrations of

Bhagavatha Seshathvam is referred to by PeriyAzhwAr

as well as Thirumangai AzhwAr in their Paasurams:

" KesavA PurudOtthamA kiLar SothiyAi KuRaLAvenRu

PesuvAr adiyArkaL yenthammai viRkavum PeruvArkaLE "

(PeriyAzhwAr Thirumozhi:4.10) and " URRATHUM UNNADIYAARKKU

ADIMAI " (Periya Thirumozhi:VIII.10.3)

AdiyEn will now provide a summary of these Paasurams of

Swamy NammAzhwAr to serve as essential background

for the themes emphasized by HH the Jeeyar based on

the commentaries by Nanjeeyar , Azhagiya MaNavALa

PerumAL Naayanaar for the ninth Paasuram of Madhura Kavi's

Prabhandham. Prior to that , here is the ninth Paasuram of

KaNNinuNN SiRutthAmpu , the topic of today's upanyAsam:

Mikka Vedhiyar Vadhatthin uttporuL

niRkkap Paadi yenn nenjuL niRutthinAn

Takka seer SaThakOpan yenn NampikkALL-

pukka kaathal adimai payan anRe

The ancient path of AchArya Bhakthi that constitutes

the corner stone of Sri VaishNavA theology is celebrated

resoundingly again by " Thunpu aRRa Madhura Kavi " in this

paasuram .Swamy Desikan summarized brilliantly the essence

of this ninth paasuram as creating clear comprehension of

the Tatthva Jn~Anam ( Tatthuvatthai uNartthuthalil).

HH the Jeeyar elaborated on this theme and connected it

to Swamy NammAzhwAr's celebration of the supermacy of

BhAgavatha Seshathvam in His Thriuvaimozhi decads 3.7 & 8.10.

Adiyen will now sumamrize the upadEsam housed in

these ThiruvAimozhi Paasurams , which is central

to the understanding of this paasuram of Madhura Kavi.

Srimath Azhagiya Singar in His inimitable style covered

enormous ground and the purpose of the focus on Swamy

NammAzhwAr's Paasurams by adiyEn is ONLY to include some

additional information on the centrality of these paasurams

celebrating Madhura Kavi's BhAgavatha Seshatham and

AchArya Bhakthi enshrined in His Prabhandham. AdiyEn will

select key passages from Swamy NammAzhwAr's Paasuram

that was taken to heart by Madhura Kavi AzhwAr

and practised by Him .

9. In His phala sruthi paasuram , Swami NammAzhwAr reminded

us that this decad is about the greatness of the Lord's

devotees ( tadhiyALs/BhAgavathAs) and a clear comprehension

of the upadesam contained in these pasurams will be freed

from the cycles of births and deaths ...Paasuram 11

adiyEn will complete the central meanings of " NedumARkkadimai "

(ThiruvAimozhi : VIII.10) in the next posting in preparation

for the coverage of Srimath AzhagiyaSingar's upanyAsam . These

two decads were referred to us by Sriamth Azhagiya Singar

in the context of His UpanyAsam on the Ninth Paasuram of

Madhurakavi's Prabhandham .
