Guest guest
Dear BhaghavatAs, and Shriman MalOlan cadambi: First of all, I would like to correct myself. Madurantakam Swamigal had written commentaries for five of the six jitantE stOtrams. The commentary for the first stOtram was originally written by Shri Periya AcchAn Pillai (the great vyAkyAna Chakravarthy). Shri PuttangkOttam Swamigal’s vyAkyanam is a further elaboration of Shri Periya AcchAn pillai’s commentary. Some of you had expressed an interest to know the explanation for sloka-5 of the first jitantE stOtram (na tE roopam….) which on the face of it seems to smack of an advaitic flavor. AdiyEn will try to translate it as soon as possible after providing a brief introduction (As such I am only summarizing by translating the key passages of the commentaries to the best of my ability and through my AchAryA’s grace) The jitantE stotrams are vEdic mantrAs found in the Rig Veda. Since EmperumAn is a stOtra-priyan these mantrAs styled as a ‘sthavam’ have earned the title of a ‘stOtram’. Sage Narada happens to visit SvEta Dveepam and he meets the Brahma-putrAs (EkadA…). They bless him with the jitantE stOtrams (that were already revealed in the Rig vEdam). These stotrAs finally find their place in the Pancha-rAtra Samhita as five different jitantE stOtrams. In some recension of the samhita a sixth stOtra is also found. Thus there are six different jitantE stOtrams (officially recognized!! in VishtAdvaitic circles) that have come down to us as a blessing. -- to be continued Vijayaraghava dAsan Buffalo, NY _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
Dear vijayaraghavan, I cannot wait for you to translate " nate rupam " shlokam's vyakhyanams. Guess what. I was thrown out of Harekrishna mandir since I gave a supposed to be visistadvaitic interpretation as given by puttamkotai swami and as translated by SMS chari in his vaishnavism. Hence this shloka is of great importance to me that caused me to - completely get thrown out of Harekrishna mandir participation in the " bhagavatam lectures " I used to give!!!! 3 years back.. adiyen Krishna Vijayaraghavan Srinivasan [vijayaraghavan_s] Tuesday, April 03, 2001 2:54 PM Re: jitantE stOtrams Dear BhaghavatAs, and Shriman MalOlan cadambi: First of all, I would like to correct myself.
