Dear all,

As said by SrI Dileepan, this has been discussed a lot

in the past.

A short note :

> We sri vaishnavaas invoke several devatas while performing homams

> (Aavaahanam into the kalasam) before the final aavaahanam of Sriman

> Narayana.

We do not invoke several dEvatas. We invoke *only* SrIman-NArAyaNa

(SN) in His different aspects - SN with Agni as His SarIra,

SN with VaruNa as His SarIra etc. This is the same case wrt

SandhyAvandanam etc rites that a SrI-VaishNava performs. Never

is the case wherein a SrI-VaishNava prays Or invokes anya-dEvata

during the rites. We perform it with such an invocation since it

has been commanded so by SAstras - SrIman NArAyaNa preetyartham.

Only during such Nitya-Naimitika karmas, we invoke SN with such

aspects of His. Otherwise, we are supposed to directly worship

Him through His Suddha-sattva thirumEni.

The various deities of anya-dEvats are consecrated based upon

Aagamas {like Saiva, SAkta etc} that are counter to aagamas which

are pro-vEdas - viz.PAn~carAtra and VaikhAnasa. Hence, SrI

VaishNavas do not have anything to do with those deities. This is

also another reason to not visit such temples - they being

anti-vedic.

Only when say the likes of Lord Siva comes in front of us

directly with all the SrI-VaishNava symbols - thirumaN etc,

we have to prostrate at them, since they have come as

bhAgavatas.

We certainly need to have respect for anya-dEvatas. This does

not amount to worshipping/praying them.

Please refer the archives for more details.

aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan,

anantapadmanAbhan.
