It required lot of resources. The mindset of some of the of " dhanavALargaL " (wealthier people) of those days were also similar to those in the present days. The contributions were coming from great souls and many were yet to do so. The mathiL work couldnot pause for want of resources. Unlike the current days, those days (several centuries ago) were little different in terms of the rule of the law governing a state. It is said that though strict laws were very much in place, a collective wisdom was also applied in dealing law and order situation. thirumangai was set to mobilize all the resources using all his " Might " and if required he was ready to use his shear strength as the " padai thalaivan " (captain of the army) as well. However, there were not many resources available even for one to take it by brutal force, those days. Besides, even for snatching a wealth from someone, certain " dharma " was followed. Such was done only from those who had abundant money (than what one usually needs for a wealthy life) and one who possess abused money that they amassed by illegal means or from poor and would not donate to charity or from a property or vasthu of great monetary value that was kept by someone for propagating false values and non-vedic religion and philosophies. It is said that it was justified those days for robbers to steal from these and pass it onto good causes or to the poor. Mediocre and Poor people were not exploited or robbed of their resources. " KaLavu seyvathilum Or dharmam pin paRRap pattathu " . Unfortunately some of the later day historians may term thiru mangai and his friends as those who resorted to robbery, and may say so without telling the principles they followed and without underlining the situation that drove them to do so. " Porul ULLavargaL thanthu irunthAL " he would not have resorted to these practices after all. When the going got so tough for his kainkaryam, the lack of available resources were in fact posing a great challenge to his kainkaryam. It was then that in " nagap pattinam " known as thiru nAgai, there was a buddha temple that had a golden buddhA statue. The amount of gold used to make the statue was enormous and so it was believed that the statue was worth a great amount of money. The vigraha was also having some tantric powers vested in it. Thirumangai mannan came to know of it. Thirumangai's friends suggested to him that if they can have that vigrahA then the temple construction can be completed with much ease. However, that temple was secured and monitored with strict vigil.
