The only problem with the above is that many thenkalais maintain that " dEsika " is a common noun, and therefore, refers generally to ALL pUrvAchAryas between emberumAnAr and mAmunigaL. Is there any way to ascertain the TRUE intent of Sri kArappankADu Swami, or better still, to determine exactly when the term " dEsika " is used to describe Swami Desikan? -- adiyEn Srinath C. Here, it is very clear by the construction of the line that " dESikan " in tamil refers to SwAmi DESikan. " ...dESikan naDuvAga " is the construction. Even if the plural " dESikar-gaL " is used to refer all the AchAryas in between, it will be absurd to say " in the middle " . 100% straightforward in this case. In UpadEsa RatnamAlai, the pAsurams which has " dESikan® " in it is very general in purport and does not convey about SwAmi DESikan's glories/attributes. aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, anantapadmanAbhan alias Anand.
