Dated : July 1, 2001 ========== http://www.timesofindia.com/today/01mban29.htm ========== Rs 50 lakh complex at Melkote to house pilgrims MYSORE: The nineth century Vaishnavite pilgrim town of Melkote, the spiritual abode of saint Ramanuja will have a brand new boarding and lodging complex built at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. The complex is being built under the supervision of Narayana Mahadesikan, the 45th seer of the Ahobila Math. The Brindavanams (samadhis) of three seers of the math, besides that of the founder of the math saint Ramanuja would also be renovated. The complex will have congregation halls, dormatory facilities with safety lockers spread on a sprawling 10,000 sq ft area, according to Melkote Sri Ahobila Math Construction Committee chairman Srinivasan. Srinivasan said that 70 per cent of the construction of the hall besides an ashram for the seer on a 1,000 sq ft area was still under construction. So far Rs 20 lakh had been spent. The work was initially hampered due to financial problems. The complex would have otherwise been built to facilitate its inauguration during the fortcoming visit of seer Narayana Mahadesikan.
