Guest guest
sri: Dear Bhaktas, I understand that sitA-pirAti grants moksham to Trijada and her cohorts in Ashoka Vanam. Here is the crux of my doubt. I read that it was actually veda-vati who was in Ashoka Vanam instead of Sita. During agni parikshe, agni bhagavan presents both sita as well as vedavati. Ramar informs veda vati that he is observing eka-patni vratam in this avataram and subsequently comes back to Bhoolokam as Srinivasar and weds veda-vati who incarnates as padmavathi thayAr. I would like some more information on this topic. Guest guest
Dear Sriman Muralidhar Mama, I did some search on this topic. Apparently this topic was discussed 3 years ago in another forum. Given to the fact that there are many versions of the ramanyana like, kamba ramayana, tulasidas's ramacharita manas, the inclusion of the story of vedavathi may be a later addition. But the story of vedavati is an interesting one, Vedavati performs tapas with a desire to marry Srimann Narayanar. Ravana spoils her tapas and as a consequent, vedavati enters the realm of Agni cursing ravana. Agni infact protects vedavati. When Sitay enters agni pariksha after vanavAsam, agni bhagavan presents both vedavati and sita to Ramar. Ramar informs vedavathi that since he is observing eka patni vratam in this yuga, he told her that he would come back in Kaliyugam as Srinivasar. Hence Vedavati comes back as Padmavathi thAyar. I do not know if this story is included in Valmiki Ramayanam, nonetheless it is a very interesting story. As you say, only Sita ThAyar has the Purushakaram. praNipAta prasannA hi mythilI janakAtmajA | alameshA paritrAtum rAkshasyo mahato bhayAt || (sundara-kandam 58.92) " Mythili (sItA), the daughter of Janaka, is surely bent upon showing her grace to those who make their obeisance to Her. O rAkshasis! She is capable of protecting us from this danger " - words of trijaTA to rAkshasi-s.
