Guest guest
SrI: SrImatE rAmAnujAya namaH namO nArAyaNa! Dear devotees, Following was my response to a query from a fellow bhAgavata. > A bhakta has asked if bhagavad-guNa-darpaNam > is available anywhere, either mUlam or translation. > Can you give me some information about this? I > have the VPS publication from years ago, as well > as Sri U.Ve. PBA's mUlam edition, but I doubt > either are still in print. Can you confirm? These two are out-of-print. I only photocopied the Visishtadvaita Pracharini Sabha (VPS) edition by SrI A.SrInivAsarAghavan swAmi. The other available edition is from Chowkhamba VidyAbhavan,Varanasi {Rs.200; 1996}. It has the " Hindi " anuvAdam of BhaTTar's vyAkyAnam, by SrI SrIdharAchArya, but for loukIka purposes well known as " ShivprasAd DwivEdI " . Address : Chowkhamba VidyAbhavana, P.O. Box 1069, Varanasi 221001. Tel : 320404. SrI SrIdharAchArya studied certain sAmAnya SAstra texts and SrI-BhAshya like VEdAnta granthas under SrI UtthamUr SwAmi, mainly when swAmi was staying at Pushkar,Rajasthan. Infact, it was SrI SrIdharAchArya who wanted SrI UtthamUr SwAmi to bless them with a commentary for SrI-BhAshyam {after listening swAmi's kAlakshEpam, which had many insights not so far been recorded in previous texts}, which would be very useful for those scholars at North India as well {since they don't have regular touch with swAmi Or any south-indian scholar as well}. SrI SrIdharAchArya was the AchArya of SrI UttarAdi Muth {or sth like that} in North India. I feel that he is still alive. He has written many books in VEdAnta as well as sAhitya, {in Hindi} all published through the chowkhamba group of publishers, under the name " ShivprasAd DwivEdI " . Very remarkable work of his is the lucid explanations in Hindi for SatadUshaNI + ChaNDamArutham {DoDDayAchArya's celebrated commentry}. One can buy that edition to atleast have ChaNDamArutham mUlam in DEvanAgari lipi - though there are many typos. For those well versed in Hindi, his expositions will be a great read. He has also published his Hindi Notes to some chapters of TatvamuktA-kalApa {incomplete to my knowledge}. He has written such scholarly Hindi notes to even NyAya-PariSuddhi, YatIndra-Mata-dIpikA and also to SrI PiLLai-LOkAchArya's Tatva-Trayam. His style is lucid {pretty comprehensible to even average Hindi readers like myself}. For NyAya-SiddhAn~janam, VaikuNThavAsi SrI NIlamEghAchArya has written an excellent Hindi anuvAdam - Again published by the chowkhamba group. He was a scholar of very high merit and was colleague of SrI UtthamUr SwAmi at SrI VE~nkatESwara Oriental University,Tirupathi, and later moved over to KAsi.He was an authority in VyAkaraNa and very well-versed in VEdAnta. His another celebrated contribution is the full-length Sanskrit version of SrImad Rahasya-Traya-SAram published by SrI UtthamUr SwAmi through Ubhaya-VEdAnta GranthamAlA, for the benifit of non-tamil speaking scholars. This book is out-of-print. At Chennai, you can order the chowkhamba books through Jayalakshmi Indological Bookhouse itself. Since there are many publishers under the chowkhamba umbrella, it will sometimes be confusing to identify the right publisher. But the bookname and author will do for ordering. aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, anand.
