Hence, this guruparampara > has been known as " Bramhatantra-Svatantra ParakAla Muth " . According to prakritam parakAlaswAmi, the title " parakAlan " was accorded to brahmatantra swatantra himself, due to his prowess in debating opponents - " parA~nkAla iti parakAla: " PeriyaparakAlaswAmi (21st pattam) was not only a drAvidaveda bhAshyakAra, but also a chatusSAstravidwan and a master of the granthachAtuShtayam. > 5. The Muth Headquarters shifted to Mysore from Thirumalai during > 17th JIyar's time or so. I believe this was actually during the reign of periya parakAlaswAmi of 21st pattam. It should be quite easy to clarify this, since it is part of recorded history. It was the Wodeyar rulers of Mysore who invited 21st parakAlaswAmi to grace their kingdom as rAjaguru. So it was in periyaparakAlaswAmi's reign (1676-1737), that parakAlamaTham moved down to SrIrangapatnam near Mysore, and its maThAdipathis became rajagurus. After the fall of Tipu Sultan, parakAlamaTham reached Mysore, where it has its headquarters opposite the Jaganmohan palace even today. Thus parakAlamaTham began receiving the royal patronage of the Wodeyars; a tradition which today exists only in symbolic form (recently SrI SrIkAntadutta narasimharAja wodeyar, the prince of this dynasty and his pathni were present at the inaguration of laxmihayagriva samudAya bhavan in Mysore, where they received perumAL teertham from parakAlaswAmi - still their rAjaguru). > But, JIyar refused it as per his own commitments as Ahobila > Muth AchArya {to perform sanchAram as per the orders of > Malolan} etc. Instead, JIyar taking personal concern, appointed > a capable successor for the ParakAla Muth to continue its > tradition of aarAdhana to Lord HayagrIva. GhaTikASatam > AmmAL, the kAlakshEpa AchArya of SrI AthivaN SaThakOpa JIyar > underwent kAlakshEpam under Bramhatantra-Svatantra JIyar. > This is the original bondage between these two Guruparamparas. And of course, it was tritIya brahmatantra swatantra jIyar who, in his moovAryiarappadi - concluded with a description on the vaibhavam of SrI AdivaNN SaThakOpa jeeyar. Indeed these two magnificient institutions of parakAla and ahobila maThams have stood for almost 7 centuries now, as testimony to swAmideSikan's unparalleled legacy. vAzhi vyaakhyaamuddrak-kai thooppul thiruvEnkatam udayAn thiruvadigaLE SaraNam -adiyEn Srinath C.
