The present Pontiff of the Asramam, Sri Gopaladesika Mahadesikan (Sri Paravakkottai Andavan), thought it appropriate to institute a special award of a title `Vipaschinmani' (meaning a gem of a scholar who possesses special perception in Vedantic knowledge). The six candidates, who were conferred the title and awarded a medal, a scroll and a cash purse this year at the sadas held from July 29 to August 4 are: Prof E. Devanathacharya (Tirupati), Dr. E. Govindacharya (Tirupati), Dr. N.R. Kannan, Principal (Guruvayur), Dr. T.S.R. Narayanacharya (Tirupati), Dr. N.R. Srinivasan, Professor and Dean of Sanskrit Studies (Varanasi) and Dr. V.
