If the majestic sound of thiruchinnam is heard in a street, then it means that perumal is in procession. Adiyen has experienced this in Chittrai Brahmotsavam of Govindarajar Sannidhi in Keezh Tirupathi. Adiyen's grand parents were residing in Gangundra Mandapam Veedi(Gangaikonda Mandapam veedi) at Tirupathi. Govindarajar would proceed in different Vahanams during Brahmotsavam from Koil to this Gangaikonda Mandapam and after thaligai and Sevakalam he would proceed back to temple. Thaligai would proceed first to the Mandapam and then thiruchinnam would sound. IF thiruchinnam sound is heard , then we know that Perumal is somewhere in the vicinity. Adiyen's grandparents would wake me up (as sometimes, it would be late in the night when perumal purapaadu happens) and my grandfather will do the offerings to perumal and then we would proceed to the Mandapam. Swami Desikan has written about thiruchinnam in Thiruchinna Maalai. It is a belief that Devadirajan (Kanchi Varadaraja perumal) had two thiruchinnams. After Swami Desikan composed Thiruchinna Maalai, Kanchi Varadaraja perumal discarded the second thiruchinnam and accepted our SwamiDesikan's Thiruchinna Maalai as his another thiruchinnam. Hence there is only one thiruchinnam at Hasthigiri. Such is the importance of Thiruchinnam. Once, Srimath Devanarvilagam Azhagiyasingar was camping at Ahobilam. Devotees from other parts of India had come for darshan of our Srimath Azhagiyasingar. After getting the blessings of Acharyan, four of the devotees proceeded to Mel Ahobilam for having a darshan of the UgraSthambam. Thirumangai Azhwar has performed MangalaSasanam of SingaVelKundram as " Sendru Kaandarku Ariya Kovil " , " Deivamallal Sella Vonna SingaVezh Kundrame " , " Kavvu Naayum Kazhugum Vuchhi pothodu Kaal Suzhanru " etc. Such is the toughness of travelling to have the darshan of the Nava Narasimhas of this DivyaDesam. The sun had set and it was also KrishnaPaksham and hence it was pitch dark in Ahobilam. Four of the devotees who had gone to UgraSthambam had not returned. In the mean time, the four devotees had darshan of UgraSthambam and were returning back. It was pitch dark and they were fearing that they might have strayed from the correct path. The relatives of these devotees in Keezh Ahobilam were getting agitated and did not know what to do. The relatives prayed to Srimath Azhagiyasingar. After the evening Aradhanam, Srimath Azhagiyasingar asked some of his KaimkaryaParaals to take " Thiruchinnam " , and " Deevati " (torch) and proceed in the direction of UgraSthambam. He also informed them to blow the Thiruchinnam so that people coming down the hill would hear this sound and and travel on the correct path guided by the sound of Thiruchinnam. Kaimkarya Parals proceeded towards Mel Ahobilam and after sometime the four pilgrims heard the sound of thiruchinnam and synchronized their direction to the sound of Thirucchinnam . In a few hours, the four devotees and the kaimkaryaparals were back at Keezh Ahobilam Mutt. Srimath Devanarvilagam Azhagiyasingar informed the anxious relatives that it was SriLakshmiNrusimhan's Anugraham that these four had returned safely. To Be Continued.
