Guest guest
Dear BhakthAs of Sri RanganAyaki ThAyAr: In the previous posting , adiyen stated that the 50th slOkam is the beginning of a set of slOkams , where Swamy ParAsara Bhattar instructed us that MahA Lakshmi is the UpAyam ( Means for Moksham ) , UpEyam ( the Goal , the Lakshyam and PrApyam ) and that She is a Vibhu like Her Lord . She as Bhagavathi has Thulya SeelA ( equal in auspicious features in every aspect with Her Lord ,the BhagavAn). In this posting , we will include Dr.V.N.VedAntha Desikan's anubhavam of this 50th slOkam of SrI GuNa Rathna kOsam : " Oh Mother SeethA ! It is well known that when those Raakshasi women-folk in LankhA were in the actual process of torturing and teasing You , You forbid HanumAn from causing harm to them even as a retribution for their heinous sins. You defended them in the most indefensible manner --on a pretext that has become proverbial: You asked : *who is there above blame anywhere in the world* ? You pronounced the dictum that * to err is human * and so You would prefer to ignore their offences. You forgave them even when they were even at that moment commiting the impugned offences! I contrast this spirit of Yours with RamA's world --famous tradition of forgiving the sins of anyone who had once surrendered to Him . He did it for VibhIshaNan , the crow (KAkAsuran) , etc., say , only when they surrendered(sought surrender). They uttered or acted in the spirit of SURRENDER.What RaamA (Your husband) did is nothing great ; He had to do it once they craved (His) indulgence and said it in as many words or deeds. But What did You (Oh MyTili MaathA ) do ? You voluntarily intervened on behalf of offenders even as they were committing an offence that was hurting You . No question of their surrendering (or asking for saraNAgathi). Hence , I (Your son ) say that Your KaruNA is spontaneous and is in no need of a factor or cause from the other side (offender's side ). Your KaruNai is avyAja-KaruNai. Comparing the two contestants for greatness ( as SaraNyAs) , I would declare that You, my Mother , have worsted the Lord's credentials as SaraNyan. " Additional Comments by Sri Vaathsya VeerarAghavAcchAr Swamy ************************************************************ In this slOkam , Bhattar cites that LakshmI KshamA ( forbearance) is larger and more wonderous than that of Her Lord ( Bhagavath KshamA). She out of Her superior and unique compassion forgives even great offeenders (MahAparAdhIs) and makes them joyous. She is Krupaika Moorthy ( embodiment of DayA GuNam ). She is PraNatha SumikhI ( affectionate to one like ThirjaDai, who bowed before Her). When HanumAn arrived at LankhA and declared his intent to destroy the Raakshasis that offended SeethA Piraatti, She dissuaded HanumAn from such a rash act and counseled him against hurting the aparAdhis (offenders). The quality of Your KshamA ( forbearance ) is thus superior to that of Your Lord's KashamA.He will act only AFTER the offenders surrenderd . KshamA is displayed by Your Lord affter SaranA VaraNa Ukthi is uttered ( Example of VibhIshaNA : ThyakthvA PuthrAmsccha dhArAmsccha RAAGHAVAM SARANAM GATHA:). Your KshamA on the other hand is nirhEthukam and avyAjam . In this respect , Your Lord's KashamA that is activated by a hEthu is some what lower in quality compared to Yours . KaakAsuran was a MahAparAdhi , who offended You grievously . Your Lord was enraged and sent the BrahmAsthram in the form of a blade of grass after him to destroy him. KaakAsuran ran for cover and protection all over the three worlds and no one could protect him from the power of the chasing BrahmAsthrram . Your dharmam is PraNipAtha Prasannatthvam . When the exhausted KaakAsuran fell with face down in front of You , You lifted him up and placed him at the sacred feet of Your Lord and pleaded for his pardon with Your Lord ( Sva VishayE MahAparAdham KaakAsuram vimukha-pathitham Bhagaavth PaadhAravindhayOr-yOjithavathI, atha: SaadhUkthamEva KshAnthis-tavAkasmikIthi).Among the SaraNa VaraNa GhOshti, Sri Ramma GhOshti is therefore lighter than Your GhOshti , when it comes to display of KshamA GuNam. Adhi Kavi VaalmIki correctly pointed out in this context: " PraNipaatha PrasannA hi MyTili JanakAthmajA " .
