Guest guest
sri: srimathe rAmAnujaya namaha: Dear Members, Adiyen came across a tamil recesion of the Mahabharatam called Villi Bharatam. Is this recesion parallel to the Kamba ramayanam which is a Tamil Recesion of Srimad Valmiki Ramayanam? I would like more information on Villi Bharatam. Have any of our achryas commented on the existence of Villi Bharatam? Regards, Malolan Cadambi

The author of Villi BhAratam is also known as VilliputthUr AzhwAr. He composed a version of MahA BhAratham in Tamil with chandham ( musical metres) .He compressed the MahA BhAratham slOkams into 43,000 seyyuLkaL (verses). It was very popular for village folks for story telling . It is also called " Villu Paattu " , which means that it is sung to the accompaniment of a folk string instrument. Kamba RaamAyaNam on the other hand lived in the 9th century . He had great devotion for Swamy NammAzhwAr and composed SaThakOpar AnthAdhi at the command of Lord Lakshmi Narasimhan of SrIrangam , when he sat in front of the Lord for the arangERRAM of his Version of RaamAyaNam.Kamban was born in ThErazhundhUr and there are 10,500 beautiful Tamil Verses in his version of RaamAyaNam . Kamba RaamAyaNam has the sanctity of being approved by the Lord Himself. V.Sadagopan > >Dear Members, > >Adiyen came across a tamil recesion of the Mahabharatam called Villi Bharatam.
