Dear Bhagavathas:

Kanninun Siruththambu and IrAmunsa nUtrandAtiA are two

unique gifts to Sri Vaishnavam. These two declare to

the world that reverence for Acharyas supercedes that

for Sriman Narayana. Those who practice this are the

most dear to Sriman Narayana, even dearer than Nithyasoories.

(Please refer to Srimad Azhagiya Singar's upanyasam for

the third pasuram of Kanninun Siruthtambu).

In this small note adiyEn would like to submit to the

consideration of members a delectable similarity between

Madhurakavi/Nammazhvar anubhavam and Thiruvarangaththu

AmudhanAr/Emperumaanaar anubhavam. Both Madurakavi and

Thiruvarangathau AmudanAr chose their preceptor over

Lord Sri Kannan.

Madhurakavi Azhvar asserts in Kanninun Siruththambu that

Sri Kannan, the one who allowed Himself to be tied down

by a small rope, is not his Lord, but Thenkurukoor Nambi

(Nammazhvar) is, and, he further emphasizes that he knows

of no other lord but Satakopan.

Now please look at Thiruvarangaththu AmudhanAr's anubhavam

in verse 104 of irAmAnusa nUtrandhAti:

" kaiyil kani ennak kaNNanaik kaattith tharilum, unthan

meyyil piRangiya seeranRi vENdilan yaan, nirayam

thoyyil kidakkilum sOthi viN chErilum ivvaruL nee

seyyil tharippan iraamaanusA! en sezum koNdalE! "

Difficult words:

----------------

meyyil = thirumEni (divine body)

piRangiya = brilliantly shining

seer = auspiciousness

nirayam = hell

thoyyil = ditch

sOthi viN = bright parama padam

tharippan = will live

Free translation:

-----------------

Oh! Ramanuja! my cloud of cool grace, even if you reveal

Lord Sri Kannan to me like a fruit in my palm (uLLangai

nellik kani), all I want is to delight only in your divine

body that radiates auspicious qualities; I want nothing else;

to endure this life please grant me this wish, whether I

endlessly dwell in the ditch of hell, or ascend to the

brilliantly luminous Sri Vaikuntam.
