Guest guest
Editing religiously pursued http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/fr/stories/2002041901090400.htm IN A span of 60 years of existence of a magazine, to have been its Editor for 50 years should indeed be considered an outstanding achievement. That during this period he raised it to match international standard is a glorious distinction of Sri Purisai Krishnamachari Swami. The religious monthly, Sri Nrisimha Priya, published for the benefit of Hindus in general and Srivaishnavites in particular all over the world was all along nurtured by him. It was tightrope walking that he performed giving representation to scholars of different shades and avoiding controversies. Himself a reputed scholar and an Acharya who had taught the nuances of Visishtadwaita philosophy, more importantly ``Sri Bashyam'' to many, (a task that he is continuing even now) and authored tough and masterly books, Sri Purisai Swamy, who will complete 80 years shortly, had undergone rigorous training in all branches of he Vaishnava Siddhanta and as such was made Asthana Vidwan of the Ahobila Math, with which he is closely associated. On the occasion of his laying down office as Editor of Sri Nrisimha Priya after five decades, a function was held on Sunday last at the Math's Selaiyur complex when the present 45th Jeeyar Swami of the Math recalled his intimate association with ``Purisai Swami'', how they had been trained by the 42nd Jeeyar (Injimedu) Swami and studied in the same institution and how both had been engaged over the years, in propagating ``Ramanuja Darsanam'' and Vedanta Desikan's works. While he was made the 45th Jeeyar, to administer the Math 10 years ago, his co-guide, ``Purisai Swamy'' zealously continued his writing and teaching. The Jeeyar underlined Sri Purisai Krishnamachariar's care in carrying out the religious duties without any deviation and maintaining a disciplined life. In his reply, Sri Purisai Krishnamachariar, recipient of President's award for Sanskrit about 10 years ago mentioned the changes brought about in promoting the magazine's circulation. On behalf of the ``Sri Nrisimha Priya Trust'', a purse was presented to the Swami. A memento was also handed over to him in appreciation of his services. Sri R. K. Swamy, who was connected with the management of the monthly for more than three decades, Sri Pazhaveri Sadagopachariyar, the ``Sri Karyani'' of the Ahobila Math, the present Editor, Sri V. Lakshminarasimhachariar, offered their felicitations to the Swami.
