Guest guest
SrI: SrImathE rAmAnujAya nama: Dear SrI SaThakOpan swAmi, I thank you for sending the article by SrI S.Rengarajan, Detorit titled Sri Lakshmi Nrusimha, Mountain of Emerald Gems. I found SrI S.Rengarajan to mention " pavaLak kunRu " (mountain of emerald gems). I thought that " pavaLak kunRu " means " pravALa giri " which means " Coral mountain " . Coral has generally red-mixed-orange colour. I am curious to know whether the Tamil word pavaLam (in pavaLak kunRu) also denotes the green gem emerald which is called marakatam. I have studied authentic sabdArtam for " pavaLak kunRu " as " pravALa giri " and " pavaLam " to mean " pravALam " . I am also curious to know whether the term pravALam can also denote emerald gem. Is there any reference for these to mean like this in ancient dictionaries - Tamil/Sanskrit? or am I wrong in my understanding? Thanks & Regards M.S.HARI rAmAnuja dAsan (mshari)

This I was able to check up in the Cologne Sanskrit Lexicon. Sri Apte also gives the same meaning. Hope this helps.
