SrI:

Dear SrI Malolan R Cadambi,

I know that Tamil-PavaLam and Sanskrit-pravALam means Coral.

But as the author the article seems to have interpreted " pavaLak-kunRu "

as " Mountain of Emerald gems " , my question/doubt was

>Is there any reference for these to mean like this in ancient

>dictionaries - Tamil/Sanskrit? or am I wrong in my understanding?

That is, I wanted to know whether any of the ancient dictionaries

refer Tamil-PavaLam or Sanskrit-pravALam as " Emerald gem " . Hope my

earlier mail is now clear to you.

Thanks & Regards

pravAlam means coral. This I was able to check up in the Cologne

Sanskrit Lexicon. Sri Apte also gives the same meaning.

Hope this helps.
