Deshikan was so full of knowledge and virtues, that there is not a single thing that he could be fully compared to. Could he be compared to the Sun? No, not with its fury Could he be compared to the moon? No, it keeps waning away Could he be compared to a full moon? No, not with its dark patches Could he be compared to the stars? No, they become invisible at day Could he be compared to a river? No, it dries up in the summer Could he be compared to the ocean? No it has a shore that limits it from going beyond Could he be compared to the sky? No it is often covered by clouds Could he be compared to a cloud? No it drains down as rain Could he be compared to rain? No, it comes with a thunder Could he be compared to thunder? Not with its roars and lightening Could he be compared to lightening? No, it is very momentary Could he be compared to pralayam? No, it is very destructive Could he be compared to a forest? No, it has got wild beasts Could he be compared to the Earth? No it is uneven with its valleys and mountains Could he be compared to a mountain? No, it has rocks and thorns Could he be compared to a Rock? No, not with its harshness Could he be compared to a Water? No, it is very unstable Could he be compared to a stream? No, it doesn't have the capacity to go on an upward elevation Could he be compared to a flower? No, it withers in time Could he be compared to a Gem? No, it loses its glitter at night Could he be compared to a Crystal? No, it loses its sparkle in dark Could he be compared to a fruit? No, some may be bitter Could he be compared to a Lion? No, it is the king of a forest alone Could he be compared to a King? No, he rules over the Earth alone Could he be compared to a Knowledgeable person? knowledge embellishes itself having won his association Could he be compared to Indra? No, he always longs for his position Could he be compared to Agni? No, not with his flames Could he be compared to Varuna? No, not with his flooding waters Could he be compared to Vayu? No, not with his whirlwinds Could he be compared to Kubera? No, not with his riches Could he be compared to Matsya? Kurma, Kalki, No, they had no teachings to offer Could he be compared to Varaha? Nrusimha, Rama, No they were enemies to the evil Could he be compared to Vamana? Trivikrama, No, they asked for a material land Could he be compared to Krishna? No, he chased gopis many a times Could he be compared to Balarama? No, he would do madhu paanam Could he be compared to an saint? Yes, he is a born saint Could he be compared to an acharya? Yes, he is THE ACHARYA Could he be compared to azhwars? Yes, but they sang in dravidian lore alone Could he be compared to Alavandar, Ramanuja? Yes, but they wore saffron Could he be compared to Paraman with his divine attributes? too close but he is danda-dharan Could he be compared to Piraatti? YES he can be !!! Could he be compared to a Sound? Yes, he is the representation of the all-pervasiveness in Sound Is he our Thuppul Vedanta Deshika? YES, that's him !!! Glory unto the great Vedantha Deshika !!! In the next posting we shall see as to how, everything said above could be compared to Swamy Deshikan for a particular kalyana gunam.
