Guest guest
Dear SrI Venkat R, I appreciate your mail and kainkaryams to celebrate swAmi dESika's tirunakshatram. I saw the images in the link that you have provided. May I suggest something to you if you do not mistake me! But it is of the category " SonnAl virOdham idu Agilum solluvEn " . While doing hArati and such angams of AarAdhanam that too during swAmi's tirunakshatram, it is a must to follow atleast some basic anushTAnams like having 12 uRdhva puNDrams, not wearing shirt, married men to wear madi pancha-kaccham. These anushTAnams are very much important. Please do not mistake me that I am critizising. Now-a-days, it is almost impossible to see SrI vaishNava ladies to wear SrI chUrNam and tirumaN Urdhva puNDrams. Most of the SrI VaishNava ladies have only poTTu and such marks which is also in dEvatAntarams. The same case is also almost comming for SrI VaishNava men. Many of us have already left Sikai etc. But we should not be pessimistic by quoting the anushTAnams that we have left. But we must be optimistic and take postive steps to adopt atleast basic anushTAnams like 12 Urdhva puNdrams atleast on these AachArya tirunakatram days. Then adopt Sikai etc atleast gradually. Thanks & Regards naidhruva mAdabhUshi S. HARI rAmAnuja dAsan (mshari)
Guest guest
SrI: NamO NarayanA: Dear Sri Hari: AdiyEn appreciates the concerns. It should be noted that this Satsangham is based in Bahrain, a Gulf state. In adiyEn's little Understanding of Gulf States, which has rather strict religious Codes, it would not have been possible for the Goshti in Bahrain to practice basic sampradayam needs. Having been in few of the Arabic cities, AdiyEn knows that it is extremely difficult to practice Sri Sampradayam. It should be greatly appreciated that the Bahrain Goshti is able to Keep up high energy, continuous meetings of Satsangham, recitation Of various Paasurams, maintaining websites, up keep of tradition Through a series of CDs, MP3s and more. Knowing the Goshti for many years, AdiyEn knows that the Goshti Is committed to our Sri Sampradayam in letter and spirit. The Non-conformance of " Swaroopam " could only be attributed to the Place. It may be prudent to note that even many Sri Vaishnavas in Singapore - which is a very liberal place allowing for religious Freedom - DO NOT practice basics like Dvadasam and madi pancha-kaccham even today. dAsan Anand 18th October 2002 Srimad Azhagia Singar Thiruvadigale Saranam Shrimate Shri Seetha Ramachandra Parabrahmane Nama: M.S.HARI Madabhushi Sarangarajan Hari [mshari] Thursday, October 17, 2002 22:14 ; acharya Cc: venkat.R; mshari Re: swami desikan thirunakshatram celebrations in.. . Guest guest
Dear sri.Hari,Anand and Anand Karalapakkam, namo narayana. adiyen's pranamams. Well. adiyen never expected that this issue will be appearing in all the lists.Having brought to the surface let me clarify to the possible extent. As Sri Anand Sampathkumar put it,it is very difficult in Gulf states to move around outside in our traditional cloths leave alone pancha kachcham. adiyen was wearing atleast srichurnam all the time and adiyen's boss( local arab) never objected to that practice. One day there was a visitor from Saudi arabia and he took objection to this and my MD later politely told me not to wear any tilak in the office.Even when Sri Velukkudi krishnan was here, he did not travel in traditional dress fearing objection from the airport authorities. But in side our home we are free to do what ever we want as far as dressing code is concerned. It is an usual practice to be in pancha kachcham while the goshti is held at adiyen's house. You may see the images of sravanam celebrations of 2000( visit http://srivaishnavam.com/rvphoto.htm )and adiyen with 12 thirumans too. All of us perform thiruvaradanam to saligrama perumal daily in prescribed dress code and even during the weekly and monthly goshtis. This is true with sri Chary swamin and Sri Narayanan and others too, provided it is in our home and we don't have to travel in a car. Correct me if adiyen is wrong. adiyen wears pancha kachcham only if adiyen can maintain the madi. After bath we take the dried veshti and anga vastram from balcony while still wearing the wet towel and then do the sandhya vandanam and thiruvaradhanam and only after partaking the prasadam changes the dress for the office. This is applicable for the satsanghs in adiyen's house too. If the satsangh venue is away from home, we have to drive the car thru the downtown and even to have thick urdva pundram itself attracts many unwanted curious looks and we are indeed embrassed. Fortunately most of the gatherings are in the evening around 7PM so adiyen don't hesitate to go with thick thiruman from the home itself. Many bhagavathas were avoiding urdva pundram and now we are requesting them to wear it once they reach the venue of satsangh. If it is practical, we take bath in the house of the devotee where the satsangh is being conducted and wear the madi pacha kachcham before thiruvaradanam. Sri Chary swamin used to do this many times when he is invited for performing thiruvaradanam to saligrama perumal. Now it is not practical for all the 25,30 devotees to bathe and wear the madi vastram in the house prior to satsangh. If we are not madi, what is the use of wearing pancha kachcham. On 15th being a working day, most of us were busy in the office till 6 PM and with in 30 minutes we have to get ready for the 7 O'clock recitation. That is why many bhagavathas were even in pants rather than veshti. We wanted to have the goshti on the day of Thirunakshatram rather than postponing to a **convenient** week end.We all have performed special thiruvaradanam in our respective homes and in the evening no saligrama aradanam was done. adiyen is NOT trying to justify the dress code. adiyen ever since came to know about our sampradayam and started appreciating and practising it, visits the temple only in traditional dress( even to the sriranganatha temple,Pomona on 20th Sep this year). But when the goshti is outside my home it has become very difficult. Sorry for the long mail. If any one of you have better suggestion, we are willing to give it a try. Coming to ladies wearing just pottu and not urdva pundram, adiyen has seen even the most orthodox family members even while visiting the sri ahobila mutt to receive the blessings of acharya are wearing pottu only.(My daughter is interested to wear urdva pundram because she wants to dress like ANDAL,that is different story). While we our selves are helpless in observing strict dress code, where we can insist on ladies for all these. One thing. If we make it rigid, the attendence goes low and we have to make it possible for every one to come and participate. Now that urdva pundram has become common and many do sandhya vandhanam regularly due to the association of bhagavathas. adiyen request the pardon of learned members in this mail.
