Everyone must be familiar with the story of what happened to great Garuda Bhagavan when he stayed with ShaNdilee (see StAna visheShAdhikAram (Chapter 19) of Srimad RTS. ) Therefore, this note is not about the unfortunate but real difficulties faced by Gulf sishyas. It is about all of us regardless of where we live. When it comes to anushtanam all of us who are not exclusively vaideekaas do make compromises to one extent or another. Consciously or otherwise, we prioritize among the numerous requirements. Those who have attempted to look up the Ahnika Grantham written by Srimad Azhagiya Singar in pUrvAshramam must be fully aware of our hopelessness in putting to practice even some basic aspects of anushtanam. However, we must not allow this to deter us from maintaining a level of anushtanam that each of us can sustain and continuously improve. This holds for all of us regardless of where we live. Some points to consider: (i) kachcham while doing sandyavandanam, bhagavad aradhanam, visiting temples, ashramam, Sri Sannidhi, etc., (ii) both thirumaN and Sri Churnam while wearing urdva puNdaram (some people wear just Sri Churnam without ThirumaN; this, IMHO, is worse than nothing at all on the forehead, (iii) 12 thirumaN for bhagavad aradhanam, at least on special days, etc., definetly when paying obeisance to Acharya, etc. -- adiyEn
