Sreemathe: Ramanujaya Namaha!

Sri Jeeyar Thiruvadigale Saranam!

SriRama knows the Vedas, Vedangas and their 'thathva:s'

(essence). It is not possible to understand dharma

either by perception or logical deduction. Dharma can

be understood only through the four Vedas - Rigve:da,

Yajurveda, Samaveda and Adharvana veda.

Siksha, Vya:karanam, Niruktham, Kalpam, Jyo:thisham,

and Chandass are the six Vedangas.

- Siksha contains the detailed description of how all the

letters ('ah ah:' onwards) should be pronounced with

different stress and rhythm based on the position of the

alphabet in the word.

- Kalpam elaborates the procedure of ya:ga:s.

- Vya:karanam provides the formation of words.

- Niruktham explains the root of sounds. The Jyo:thisha

sa:stra specifies the auspicious time for 'karma:nushtanam'.

- Chandass sa:sthra defines the various types of chandass

(prosody) Sri Rama is knowldegeable about all these fully

along with their thathva:s.

Kshatriya:s should learn 'dhanurve:da'. This Veda

explains the methods of wielding the bow and arrow,

the use and withdrawal of 'asthra:s' on demand.

The four Upaveda:s are Ayurve:da, Dhanurve:da,

Ga:ndharvave:da and Ardhasa:sthra. SriRama was

knowledgeable about all these texts also.

As Bhagava:n is the founder of all sa:sthra:s there

is no doubt about His proficiency in them. Sri Rama

was intimate with the meaning of all the sa:sthras

( Dharmasa:sthra, Pura:na, Mi:ma:msa, Nya:yasa:sthra)

and their thathva:s. He, in fact, had in depth

understanding of these texts and was able to expound

the subtle nuances and determine the truth when there

was apparent contradiction.

Knowledge on its own does not suffice. When required,

one should be able to recollect and use the knowledge

appropriately. Also while following the principles or

describing them at a future instance one should be able

apply the principles relevant to the situation and

defend them appropriately when required.

Jaisrimannarayana!!

To be continued...

Ramanujamma Mudumbai

Ramanujadasi.
