Dear Devotees,

 

Jeeyar Educational Trust, Sri Ramayanam group is meeting every

Saturday at Livermore Temple, California with divine blessings

of HH Sri Sri Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar

Swamiji. We have started Sundara Kanda Parayanam and Tattva

Di:pika Discussions on July 20th at the temple. We are assembling

every Saturday between 11 AM to 12 Noon at Livermore Temple for

reciting Sundara Kanda as a parayanam in learning mode. Texts in

various languages are being made available.

 

Until previous week 8 sargas were chanted and we discussed

a) Sri Ramayana Mahatmyam (greatness)

b) Sri Sundara Kanda Mahatmyam

c) Importance of the first slo:kam of Sundara Kanda

d) The four qualities Hanuma:n has displayed and

how important are those qualities for us?

e) The hidden meaning of the obstacles Hanuma:n faced and

what do they convey to us? (Maina:ka, surasa, simhika)

f) What is the importance of the oath Hanuma:n took before leap?

g) A very brief note of poetic beauty in the first sarga.

h) The description of trees accompanying Hanuma:n - what does

it convey to us?

 

This week we have chanted sargas 9,10,11 and discussed the

meanings of 2nd sarga.

 

In this sarga,

Hanuma:n after landing on a mountain near Lanka, observes the

beauty and strengths of Lanka, thinks what he should do, waits

till nightfall to enter Lanka, takes a cat-like small form so

that he is not readily visible, with the help of moonlight starts

searching for Si:ta.

 

Points of discussion included:

a) The significance of 100 Yo:janams which Hanuma:n crossed

b) 3rd and 4th slo:kams of 2nd sarga

c) Description of Lanka - what does it convey?

d) Why only four Va:nara:s can enter Lanka - Angada, Hanuman,

Neela and Sugriva ?

e) What is significance of the night which Hanuma:n choose

to enter Lanka?

f) Why his form was described to be cat-like ?

g) What is conveyed through the description of moonlight ?

h) How should be a messenger/ambassador ?
