Swamiji Maharaj, what is " Sandhyavandanam " ?

Who should perform this?

 

HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami:

It is a prayer offered to the Omnipotent Lord during

" Sandhya " period. It is offered to the Lord who is

time and space continuum ,during transition times of

the day.

 

Everyone, irrespective of their caste, creed has to

perform Sandhyavandanam, to seek bliss in life. If a

person is not initiated traditionally into Vedas one

should continue to perform sandhya by reciting Mu:la

mantra or Na:ra:yana Ashta:kshari Mantra during the

Sandhya periods of the day. Folks initiated into Vedas

should perform this act along with Veda Mantras.

The period of transition between two major time phases

during the day.

How many such phases are there, during the day?

As per prama:na " sandhya: thrayanthu karthavyam

dwije:na:thmavida: sada: " - Sandhya should be done

thrice a day: morning, mid-day and dusk. Sandhya helps

in elevating one to a higher spiritual status.

Swamiji Swamiji, Why should anyone perform Sandhyavandhan?

Well there are a few things one have to be done to

attain happiness. The eternal happiness is termed as

'Brahma' and everyone longs for it. One who performs

Sandhyavandanam becomes the one who meditates on the

Ultimate 'Brahma'. " yassandhya:m upa:sathe: brahmaiva

thadupa:sathe: "

 

Those who do not perform Sandhyavandanam can't perform

duties with perfection and the fruits of action become

bondage. The process is a very effective way of thanking

God for everything he has given us and everyone around us.

 

 

Vidya:

On a different note Jeeyar Swami, how many types of

Vidyas are there?

 

HH Sri Chinns Jeeyar Swami:

If you mean categories of vidyas, there are 14.

6 Angaas: siksha, Vyakarana, chandassu, niruktam,

jyotisham, kalpasutram,

4 Vedas: ruk, yajus, sama, atharva

4 Sastras: mimamsa, nyaya sastra, purana, dharma sastra
