Srimathe Ramanujayanamaha!

Jeeyar Thiruvadigale saranam!!

The entire expanse of earth was fit to be ruled by Manu and all the

Ishwaku vamsa kings like never before. They were flourishing

victoriously. Sagara was famous among them. His sons were sixty

thousand. While searching for the Ya:ga:swa (horse used in the

aswamedha yaga) they had to excavate the earth, which later filled with

water became an ocean. It came to be called ‘sa:gara’ after Sagara’s

name. Among the noble Ishwaku kings the story of Rama, the Sri Ramayana

emerged. We (Lava, Kusa) will tell the whole legend from the beginning.

In this story, it is established how should be ‘dharma, ka:ma and

ardha’. The listeners should listen to it without jealousy. In this we

find the natures and practices beyond the comprehension of a common

human being. So they try to find out if such people ever exist and want

to find faults in their behaviour. It should be listened with the belief

that it had actually happened.

The kingdom ‘Ko:sala’ emerged on the banks of the river ‘sarayu’. It was

a great joyous kingdom with a large expanse. It flourished with riches

and abundant food grains. Its capital city was Ayo:dhya. It was renowned

in all the worlds. This was built by Manu, the lord of the mankind,

personally just with his ‘sankalpa’. It was twelve yo:janas in length

and three yo:janas in breadth. These are the measurements of the main

city and it extended upto many yojanas far on all sides. There were many

highways connecting various kingdoms. The main royal highway was very

long and wide. This highway was well decorated with flowers and pearls

and water was sprinkled at all times. It was being ruled by King

Dasaratha. He ruled his kingdom efficiently and prosperously than his

previous rulers, like Indra ruled in heaven.

Jai Srimannarayana!
