SrI:

Dear BhakthAs:

A friend of mine living in thsi country asked this question:

" Usually in India , we observe Rahu Kaalam on Saturdays

during 9-10.30 A.M.Should it be moved to 10-11.30 A.M

during the daylight saving times? "

My response is: The daylight saving time is an artifact

created to help the Farmers and is not observed even in

all states of the country. The Sun Rise and Sunset are the most

important markers for us, wherever we are .

Recently , the SrI RanganAtha Temple with the help of

the SrI Ganesa Kutty Sasthry of Srirangam ( the heriditary

YomiadhArar of Srirangam temple) has composed a special

calendar for SrI RanganAtha temple , Pomona , NY taking into

account the Latitude and Longitude of New York (E.S.T)

for Sun rise and Sun Set. This calendar is geo-centric

in character and therefore the position of the planets

and Rahu ( ChAya Graham) remains the SAME in comparison

to the Indian Calendar.

For Fixing Rahu Kaalam , the length of the day from

Sun Rise to Sun Set is used and hence it varies as

rrecorded below for the different months. It is not

90 minutes always for each day ( Monday : 7.30 -9.00,

Saturday: 9-10.30 A.M etc ). The details of Raahu Kaalam

are given for selected Saturdays in 2003 and 2004

below to show the variations.

SrI RanganAtha Temple calendar is invaluable for

observing Tithis, Nakshathrams , Yogams etc accurately.

In addition to that , SrI RanganAtha temple calendar

has beautiful pictures for each month from the ArchA

Moorthys of the Temple ( Lord RanganAthA , SrI RanganAyaki,

ANDAL , SrI Lakshmi Narasimhan, Lord Ramachandara and

SitA PirAtti , Lord SrInivAsa, SrI VeNugOpAla , Lord

HayagrIva, Garuda , AzhwArs and AchAryAs ).

It is a rare collector's item and is a must for

Vaidhika Observances. One thousand copies were printed

and 500 are still left for acquisition . Please hurry up

and acquire one for Your homes and Families.

If you are intersted to have the benefit of this

Rare PanchAngam , Please let me know so that I can

ask the temple authoroities to send you one . You can

make a small contribution to the temple to cover

the cost of the PanchAngam and the daily AarAdhanam.

(Meaning): I meditate on the Lord of SrIrangam reclining

on His most enjoyable soft bed of AdhusEsha, with His

eyes closed in the YoganidhrA pose. He is keeping His

right hand under His head and His left hand near His hip.

He rests under the shining PraNavAkAra VimAna of SrIrangam

temple encircled by seven courtyards. His sacred feet are

being gently pressed by SrI and BhU devis during His

YoganidhrA at His temple situated in the central region

of the KaavEri delta.
