Announcement of Automated Oppiliappan Archives from the date of Creation of the List (March 8,2002)

Dear Friends :

A very talented devotee and expert in Internet Software tools

and techniques has taken a lot of time and trouble to collect

all the postigns in Oppiliappan list and has placed a powerful

and versatile search tool for queries of these archives

by topics and threads .

I am deeply grateful to him . You might recall that I lost

a significant portion of the archives at one time due to

some unintended mistake I made . All of those "lost "

postings have now been revived and added by this talented

professional , who prefers to be anonymous. It is my bounden

duty to thank him for this great UpakAram .

He has also created a separate list with in the archives for

the growing Thiruvaheendhrapuram RathnAngi Kaimkaryam

Threading

Do : For discussions on the same topic, use Reply to reply to messagesDo Not: Do not reply to a message merely to send a message to the author, instead create a new message.Why : This helps the threading process and readability since the internal message-id of the email messages are used by the software to understand inter-message relationships.

Author Indexing

Do : Some people post from two or more different places i.e. from their computer software such as Outlook and/or from a web interface. When doing so please check the settings to ensure that the From name is the same Typical problems are:Outlook's setting: John Doe Hotmail setting : John H. DoeWhy : This results in the messages of the author John Doe being filed properly and not as two separate authors

Series Indexing

Do : Maintain consistency in Subject lines for messages on the same topic.Why : This helps create a separate listing of these messages into a series, since the software can do a pattern match on the Subject line. Hint : To maintain threaded readability in a series, Create a new message for the first message of the series and for each additional message Repyly-to this first message that you created.
