Guest guest
Namaskaram Bhagvathars, Shri Vaishnavas, Honorable people, please guide me with knowledge on my concern. I regularly do nirjala ekadashi and sandhyavandanam. Every time on day of Ekadashi & Dwadashi I get this query in my mind of whether to sip water during sandhyavandanam ? Finally I end up doing achamanam but not sip the water. So please share with me the knowledge on performance of Sandhya vandanam on ekadashi & dwadashi days. Food on dashmi and dwadashi whether it is one full meal and fruits or do you have any suggestions/knowledge of right way ? I take one full meal on dashmi (noon) and fruits in the evening. I am happy and satisfied for today with past. I want to grow with right attitude and knowledge in snadhyavandanama, ekadashi performances. What does the vedic sampraday provides knowledge on following topics, please share with me. Your guidance is a blessing. With all respects Anand
Guest guest
Dear Sri Anand, You have probably already received several comments from more knowledgeable and qualified devotees on this subject in other lists. But, I thought that I would share what I have learned on the subject - Sandhyavandanam is a Ve:dic obligation that is to be performed by all those who have been initiated into the Ga:yatri manthra. The precepts and practices involved in its performance are for the physical/emotional/spiritual purification of the individual and for the good of the world; consequently, all of the practices involved, including taking a:chamanam should be performed in the proper way, in the spirit of service, every day. The observance of such days as e:kadasi and dwa:dasi are prescribed in the Ve:das in order to increase our sa:ttwic qualities, such that our minds can better focus on God, and that we can cultivate good qualities that can be used in His Service. Since the performance of thiruva:radhanam, which is but one means of expressing our love for the Lord, involves the offering and partaking of teertham and prasadam, these can be taken by the devotee on e: kadasi to a reasonable degree. The spiritual aspirant can then perform a fast to his/her capacity to do so (note that a number of exceptions regarding the level of fasting are provided in sa:stras for those having health issues) for the rest of the day, the ideal being not having any food such that the beneficial energy of the dwa:dasi moon can be fully directed towards the manas. Although many have adopted this practice, nirjalam is not a requirement for following e: kadasi, since water is vital for life, and of course, is also a means for purification during sandhyavandanam and other rituals. The next day, Dwa:dasi, is a feast day, but since it is assumed that the devotees have fasted the previous day, the items that are prepared are very specific for health reasons, and are to be taken before sunrise - after they are offered to Sriman Narayana, of course - to formally break the fast. I am not certain on all the traditional food stuffs that should be prepared, but I am sure that others in this group can help us with this. I do not know of any requirements for dasami:. adiye:n Ramanuja da:san Mohan , " Anand Iyengar " <anand2048@y. ...> wrote: > Namaskaram Bhagvathars, Shri Vaishnavas, > > Honorable people, please guide me with knowledge on my concern. > > I regularly do nirjala ekadashi and sandhyavandanam.
