1: Highlights about this sthalam and sannidhi

Brief Temple History:

=> Thirukurukur became Azhvarthirunagari after Nammazhvar.

Alwarthirunagari is situated on the banks of the river Thamirabarani,

which is 32 KM's east of Thirunelveli. Azhvarthirunagari is one among

Nava Thirupathi Dhiviya Desam.

=> Mathurakavi Azhvar took Nammazhvar as his " Acharya " . After hearing

Thiruvaimozhi from Nammazhvar, Mathurakavi Azhvar sung " Kanninunn

Siruthambhu " in praise of Nammazhvar. He requested his Acharya for

his " vigraha " to worship for himself and for the benefit of future

generations. On his Acharya's direction, he boiled the holy water of

river Thamirabarani, where an idol with " Anjali Hastham " emerged

first. They realized the idol as " BhavishyathAcharian " (Future

Acharya). BhavishyathAcharian was later called as " the Emperumanar

(Ramanujar) " . Nammazhvar had made mangalasasanam in his

Thiruvaimozhi " Poliga, Poliga, Poliga (5 ch, 2) in favour of

BhavishyathAcharain.

=> The same " Bhavishyathacharya " vigraha is in this Emperumanar

Sannidhi in Azhvarthirunagari.

=> The current temple here was constructed by Thiruvaimozhi Pillai

(Mamunikal's Acharya), to host the Bhavishyad Acharyan Sannidhi.

=> Seventh Pontiff of of this Emperumanar Mutt: H.H. Sadagopa

Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamigal gave sanyasa ashrama to " Manavala

Mamunikal " .

=> Manavala Mamunikal composed " Yathiraja Vimsathi " in praise of

Emperumanar at this sthalam..On hearing this 20 slokas in sanskrit,

Thiruvaimozhi Pillai titled him as " Yatindra Pravanar " .
