Guest guest
Dear Shri Sadagopan swamy My humble request is to let the 'sleeping dogs lie' - i guess the narration will differ depending on which 'kalayar' narrates the incident - presumbaly the forums comprise of both the kalayars - it is very unfortunate that the vaishnava community (comprising of brahmins) is today the laughing stock of people in chennai - especially of several other religious communities surrounding triplicane it is sad that the two kalai's which originated due to various historical and other practical considerations cannot see eye to eye on simple things in life - how can these fellows be entrusted with carrying on the tradition of alwars, acharyas and other vedic seers? one wonders if the recent initiative by the TN govt. to bring other community people as acharkas was infact correct - it will serve to teach these people a good lesson - be united else perish of the nearly just over 600,000 iyengars (comprising brahmins) if 100,000 iyengars of vadagalai sect can't get along well with 500,000 of thenkalai then what right have we all got to teach the rest of the world about vaishnavism? in my experience only the uneducated/illiterate brahmins (in the vaishnava and vedic sampradayam context) fight - the learned scholars from both the commuinities have enormous respect for each other - How different are we for fanatics of other religion? The alwars and acharyas considered themselves to be servants and dust of servants of lord narayanan - but the we as sishyas of those alwars think we are the masters of the universe Time and again the forum has debated about spreading vaishnavism to other parts of the world - are we ready yet? are we capable? are we the right people to do that? perhaps not Let's first - set our house in order, follow our sampradaya in each of our household, cultivate enough humility like the alwars did, try to stem the recent trend of religious conversion of innocent daits, follow what was set to us in the varnashrama dharmam - am sure vaishnavism will automatcially attract others Time and again vaishnavism has been attacked by the outsiders - stories abound in every village in TN near srirangam as to how vaishnavites of all castes ladi down their life during several invasions over centuries - vaishnavism stood its ground only because its followers were GENUINE - today vaishnavism/hinduism in general suffers from intellectual bankruptcy and lack of sincerity - its own internal constituents are in danger of pulling it down let's get back to our basics - let's start from the fundamentals once again Best wishes and sincere regardsRamji

Guest guest
Though a silent user of the group (grateful one too) I am compelled to write to salute you for taking up this matter so boldly. Sri Ramanuja cannot be used to our convenience, we have to take him fully as a true moderator when Vashnavisam was into bad times. It can be again so if we can be so petty. When we have taken to all professions in the world including leather tanning, how can we deny assimialtion of more Hindus into Acharyan Ramanuja's fold? The happenning in Thiruvalikkeni is condemnable and sad and so is similar divisive acts by all. The posting by Ramji and others below made me very happy and hopeful. It was Desikan who loudly proclaimed that Azhwargal pasurams must be used in our worship and how much we have benefitted. I wish the group well and also wish we are not caught in the narrow paths as once warned by Swami Vivekanand once T P Sampath , Srimahavishnu Vinjamuri <vsmvishnu wrote: > > Dear Sriman Ramji swami, > > In Ramanuja's days also, people irrespective of caste were participating in the goshti. Our Iyengars of both subsects (though with different views on varNASrama dharma) succeeded in driving them away and alienating Vaishnavism from the masses. > > Whether one follows varNASrama dharma is not really relevant. It look sweet to us brahmins that one has to adhere to one's own varNASrama dharma. But to say it to others e.g. - as per your varNASrama dharma you have to wash clothes/cut hair, otherwise perumAL will not liberate you, looks odd. > > adiyen ramanuja dasan > Vishnu > > ramji_iyengar <ramji_iyengar wrote: > Dear Shri Sadagopan swamy > > > one wonders if the recent initiative by the TN govt. to bring other > community people as archakas was infact correct - it will serve to > teach these people a good lesson - be united else perish > > of the nearly just over 600,000 iyengars (comprising brahmins) if > 100,000 iyengars of vadagalai sect can't get along well with 500,000 > of thenkalai then what right have we all got to teach the rest of the > world about vaishnavism? in my experience only the > uneducated/illiterate brahmins (in the vaishnava and vedic > sampradayam context) fight - the learned scholars from both the > commuinities have enormous respect for each other - How different are > we from fanatics of other religion? > > The alwars and acharyas considered themselves to be servants and dust > of servants of lord narayanan - but we as sishyas of those alwars > think we are the masters of the universe > > Let's first - set our house in order, follow our sampradaya in each > of our household, cultivate enough humility like the alwars did, try > to stem the recent trend of religious conversion of innocent daits, > follow what was prescriber to us in the varnashrama dharmam - am sure > vaishnavism will automatcially attract others > > let's get back to our basics - let's start from the fundamentals once > again > > Best wishes and sincere regards > > Ramji > Ready for the edge of your seat?
