VaishNavaas have 2 Aagamams to worship

Bhagavaan Sriman NaarAyaNan at Home and

in all the temples . These are PaancharAtram and VaikhAnasam .

You can not tell a temple , whether it is

practising PaancharAtra or VailhAnasa Aagamam

from outside . The rites of worship , the use of Vedams

in worship , the use of tantric rites , the use of Agni

and a host of other practises will help to determine the

type of Aagamam that is being used .

Individual Guru Paramparaas will have different

information items . You would have to piece them

together .For instance , 6000 padi Guru Paramparaa prabhavam

will have the nakshatram and the months of

AzhwAr avatArams and not tithi, Vaaram , Year

and yugam . 3,000 padi has additional

complimentary information . Dating of

the times of AzhwArs is tricky . SampradhAya

Jn~Anam and History Jn~Anam have difficulty

going together .

Hello!I am writing a book on the basics of Vaishnavism in Tamil Nadu. I need some help and hope forum members can help.1. Am i correct in stating that the FIRST WRITTEN record of the lives of the Azhwars was in the Aarayirampadi Guruparambara PRabhavam by Pinbazhagiya Perumal? If so what century was this work written? If this is not correct, when were the stories first recorded and who did it?2.For an ordinary devotee, what are the indications in a temple that will tell her/him that agama(pancharathra/Vaikhanasa) the temple followsReqest a response at the earlistRegardsPradeep Chakravarthy
